Kenner Legends of Batman, Batman Vs. Catwoman

I haven't found much information on the origin of Kenner's "Legends of Batman" series on the internet, but one can easily find this Batman Vs. Catwoman set (1996) on Amazon, E-Bay, and a variety of other online stores. There was a line of smaller, all plastic figures, but according to CoolToyReview.Com, this was the only 12" doll-type set in the lineup. Kenner did however release a separate Batman Vs. Poison Ivy box set the same year in conjunction with the Batman and Robin motion picture merchandising. I've seen auction prices for as high as $50.00, but I landed the Batman Vs. Catwoman box set for $19.69 (price included shipping) and I wouldn't pay more for it: they have very limited articulation, and Catwoman has equilibrium issues. Neither figures have ankle joints, and Catwoman's elbows don't bend- her upper arms instead swivel above the biceps. Conversely, Batman's forearms swivel and his elbows bend up and down, though he has no wrist joints as CatWoman does. That being said, I enjoy the classic styling of these toys, and I really had a ball shooting them...

Batman and Catwoman are an interesting pair with a lot of sexual tension between them, expertly portrayed by Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1992 motion picture,  Batman Returns. The cat-and-mouse routine between the Caped Crusader and his most enduring love interest, anti-hero Selina Kyle, has a long running storyline in D.C. Comics, going all the way back the Batman, Issue #1 where she was first depicted as a sly jewel thief who both titillated and frustrated the (laughs) rigidly disciplined hero. Catwoman's literary persona was given a reboot in Batman: Year One (1986) when Frank Miller portrayed her as a prostitute who mastered martial arts to fend off an abusive pimp and help herself and little sister escape a hardscrabble existence in urban Gotham City.
