Paratrooper Dive Captain America!

Heavens to Betsy Ross, there's a lot of Hasbro Captain America merchandise in the toy aisles right now!  Between all of it, the Thor toys, and the Mattel Green Lantern stuff, making a choice can be tough for some. Not for myself so much, because I really haven't been impressed with the majority of it, which seems overpriced, and not very well produced. The Captain America toys have recieved a myriad of complaints, including but not limited to severe paint issues, lack of posing base, and limited articulation. That said, the nostalgia factor of the Paratrooper Dive Captain America did not get past this child of the 70's ...

This offering from Hasbro included a standard Captain America figure with sheild & assault rifle, and a parachute with removeable harness. The colorful package with a functional accessory seemed like the perfect Captain America for me- it just makes sense. Does the parachute work? It does with a good toss!

Like a real parachute landing, Cap comes down swiftly but on his feet. I would have definitely been on the roof of my Dad's shed with this at the age of ten, let me assure you  :D  ... I probably should have reviewed the instructions more closely prior to Cap's inaugural jump... just couldn't wait  :D
Removing the parachute harness reveals a Captain America of standard Marvel stock, exactly like I grew up with. Like most everyone's it seems, there is some unfortunate paint slop on this figure, but not nearly as bad as some I've seen- and that's a shame. Worse yet, some of these paint issues are undetectable until the figure has been removed from it's packaging, making a selective choice nearly impossible. The figure included in this Deluxe Mission Pack seemed sturdier than some of the other toys in this line as well, particularly in the knee joints. My advice on these new Captain America figures would read somewhere along the lines of "proceed with caution".

Cap with Hasbro's Marvel Universe Iron Patriot: I've not heard complaints about MU line that compare to the uproar over lack of quality control in the Captain America line...

And because you know how much I love to play BIG TOY/little toy here at the Super-DuperToyBox, Cap with Famous Covers Captain America by ToyBiz  :D

Have a GREAT Independence Day, Fellow Americans!

  1. Am going to buy this figure Colin and not so much for the Parachute but for the figure itself because i have been looking to get a "standard" Cap like the one i grew up with and this one fits the bill.

  2. If you want standard cao, the heavy artillery version is a good one too, plus he's cheaper, and , at least around here, is an easy one to find with good paint.

  3. As someone who made parachutes for nearly all my action figures with baggies and string as a kid, I am so tempted by this one. But the price points on these guys has me staying away from them. Maybe I'll grab some if/when they go on sale or something. Still, this one is at the top of my list!

  8. Great review! It convinced me to get it despite the fact that I have Heavy Artillery Cap. Besides, who could resist a parachute?
