Marvel Legends War Machine & Silver Centurion

As if there wasn't enough Marvel Legends Iron Man figures in my collection, I recently added the new War Machine and Silver Centurion to my ranks within the las couple months. These were highly anticipated by the action figure community and they did not disappoint.

The arsenal of accessories afforded War Machine in his deluxe box format is sensational; lots of new blast effects here, including the fat shoulder cannon blast, sweeping wrist gun fire, and box rocket blast, the missiles of which are separate pieces. We've seen the launch blast, though a smoky paint job at it's base is new

War Machine's gauntlet gun will also accommodate the smaller barrel fire and smoke effects included as well. Options. An alternate set of hands many have been nice, but there is so much else to enjoy, it's hard to complain.

Also included in this deluxe release is an alternate, comic based head of Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes. This is a classic interpretation of the character, based on his first solo title in the mid-'90s, and he's perfect. Such a great figure!

In spite of the aforementioned figure, this new Classic War Machine is tough to beat with all the accessories and associated Marvel Comics nostalgia...

The Walgreen's exclusive Classic Silver Centurion was highly sought after, and hard for me to find, stumbling onto only one in the wild. Like War Machine, he's represented true to his '90s aesthetic, and a fan favorite among many of the Marvel Legends community. While I'm a classic Iron Man fan, I did always appreciate the red and silver armor. The subtly metallic red against the silver paint is fantastic- he's a beautiful figure! 

Silver Centurion came with four repulsor blasts in light, translucent yellow, and wider add-on flairs for extra options. I like the color of these; with all the blast effects among the recent Iron Man releases, we now have innumerable options. While Siver Centurion seems minor in comparison to the Deluxe War Machine above, he is a seriously cool figure that is not to be overlooked!

Below, Silver Centurion and War Machine with my Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Classic Iron Man and Iron Man 2020.  I've picked up at least seven new Marvel Legends Iron Man figures in the last year or so, but there is something special about these four classic interpretations that really appeal to me, and I think that's a common sentiment among collectors. Recommended!

Marvel Legends Classic Punisher, 80th Anniv. Punisher, Punisher War Machine

I've had the Classic Punisher for a couple years, so I thought it would be a good time to open him upon finding the new 80th Anniv. Punisher and Punisher War Machine at GameStop recently. Check out the video:

We've had a few Punisher figures over the years from Hasbro, including a camo Punisher with the face paint ten years ago in the Nemesis wave, as well as a classic Punisher from the 2012 Epic Heroes wave, which had a Thunderbolts variant in red. This newer 80th Anniversary Punisher is a kitbash of parts from Erik Killmonger, the Netflix Punisher, Classic Punisher, and Demolition Man.

The Punisher War Machine came out of nowhere recently, surprising all of us, and I compulsively with the 80th Anniversary Punisher at a local GameStop. I'd long admired that sculpt originally used on the Civil War Series War Machine, but was ultimately disappointed by all his extra parts that don't peg in well at all. I already have him up for auction on my eBay, because while I love the deco, he doesn't compare to that bitchin' Avengers War Machine I got just a couple months ago.

Marvel Legends Avengers War Machine

I knew at the moment solicitations for this figure was announced that he would be mine, and patience paid off months later when I had him for under twenty bucks, shipped. He is a beautiful piece, even if somewhat limited in articulation, due to his girth. Vertical articulation on the shoulder cannon would have made it more useful, but I do like the ankle pivots, and his neck/head and hips aren't bad. Hinged wrists & double-jointed knees help in posing him as well.

The sculptural detail and mecha/metallic finish combined with the robot bulk of this figure makes him a standout, his arm cannons exaggerating his already hulking stance. Paint is spare, ultimately contributing to his realistic aesthetic. The touch of glowing red around the eyes is fantastic!

My 2013 Marvel Legends Iron Man 3 Series Iron Patriot has a superiorly articulated shoulder cannon, truth be told, but he seems downright anemic next to War Machine. I somehow have no other War Machine figures to compare this one to, but am confident all the previous versions would fare no better next to this...

And finally, War Machine next to my Marvel Legends Ragnarok Gladiator Hulk, Starforce Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange. That Gladiator Hulk got me back into Legends in 2017, after which I collected more than I had years prior by far. It's been said before, Hasbro has been killin' it the last few years, with no end in sight. I have several collected I've yet to photograph, and a couple of the new 80th Anniversary figures on the way, so expect to see more here on the Super-DuperToyBox!
