Brave & The Bold Happy Meal Premiums

I have many of the Batman: The Brave and The Bold line, styled after the animated show that aired on Cartoon Network from 2008 -2011. It had been awhile since I posted on my collection of these, but I had started picking up loose figures recently, including some of these McDonald's Happy Meal premiums. There were smaller figures without articulation offered, and larger figures with action features released in another, separate wave. I've posted on two other Brave and The Bold fast-food premiums in the past, Blue Beetle and Plastic Man- both of which were super fun!

I loved how the show stylized Green Arrow in his Silver-Age outfit, with red boots and gloves- in April I posted on the 9" Green Arrow that Hasbro produced in 1999 wearing that outfit, circle back and check him out:

DCUC Haul

Let's take a quick look at the DC Universe Classics I picked up on sale this weekend for $6.69 each, an amazing deal that I took full advantage of. Some of these are a little harder to come by, especially at that price. I only started collecting these last winter, so I missed a lot from this really GREAT action figure line.

*Wave 6 Hawkman
This puppy caught my attention immediately- such an great action figure with the expanding wings. He was clean as the day he was made, with all his accessories. WOW. True, I just got a DC Direct Brightest Day Hawkman, but this DCUC is exception & unique. Plus, I have a DCUC Hawkgirl that was lonely   :D

*Wave 13 Negative Man
Tragic member of the Doom Patrol, Negative Man, will keep my keep his teammate Robotman company. His bandaged visage, meant to keep Larry Trainor's radioactivity away from innocent passersby, remind me of the invisible man. I've read little with the Doom Patrol, but it's great stuff.

*Wave 9 Deadshot
Enemy of Batman and member of the Secret Six along with Catman, Deadshot is an expert assassin who kills for whoever is paying. I thought he was unique and liked his gauntlet guns. Pretty simple.

*Wave 9 Wildcat (purple variant)
I love the clawed toes on this one! Wildcat is a golden age DC Character & longtime member of the Justice Society of America.  A heavyweight boxing champ who trained Batman, Ted Grant relies on his heavily conditioned strength & endurance to fight crime.

*Wave 2 Aquaman & Black Manta
I've been wanting A DCUC Aquaman & Flash for awhile, but not at any price I've seen on eBay- they had two other DCUC versions of Aquaman there as well, but I couldn't resist the classic! I have these two from the Retro-Action line & Batman: Brave & The Bold line as well- time for a group shot!

*Wave 8 Dr. Fate & Wave 11 Deadman (variant)
These two will be great with the DCUC Spectre I already had! The Deadman is the variant, which I preferred, his hands & feet fading into translucent plastic- Killer!

Skiff Ripper Black Manta & Sea Spear Aquaman!

"More Brave & The Bold figures?!" you ask... yes, Friends, yes  :)   Skiff Ripper Black Manta and Sea Spear Aquaman were a no-brainer in my universe. This is apropos of my just having read Justice #1- #12 (DC, Oct. 2005- Aug.2007) by Alex Ross, where Black Manta kidnaps Aquaman's infant son. I have an 8" set of these mortal enemies from the Mattel's Retro-Action series as well- LOVE IT!

Black Manta!

Aquaman!

The Warriors of the Sea square off!

Could this be curtains for Arthur, King of Atlantis??

No, Black Manta- the tides have turned!
Now YOU are at the mercy of Aquaman!

For after all, isn't that the way Alex Ross would have written it...??

Mattel 8" Retro Action Black Manta & Aquaman

While I was ordering Two-Face and Lex Luthor, I couldn’t get over Mattel’s 8” D.C. Retro Action Black Manta! The cool black outfit was too much for me to resist- EVIL! And so I purchased him and Aquaman (to keep him company) along with Face and Lex. “This is getting serious, now… I will be the owner of SEVEN action figures”, I thought to myself. Little did I know how serious it WOULD become in a very short time… I was already reading action figure blogs daily, and had begun to research other lines of action figures thoroughly.

Black Manta:
I picked up Aquaman BECAUSE of this figure- his black outfit and cool headsculpt was far removed from the old Megos I had in the 70’s. Unlike Mattel’s Superman, he has a substantial black belt that hooks closed in back, separate from his outfit.  Black Manta’s backpack/re-breather unit straps over his shoulders, connecting to his helmet via two black tubes. He looks SO different from the others, so sleek and otherworldly that I had to have him. My only complaint about this figure is the same with the rest, save Aquaman- where are the accessories? Should he not have a trident like the champion Atlantean?  A harpoon or something…!?? He received a small black knife from Dr. Mego that he keeps in his belt, due to the fact that Mego weapons don’t fit so well in the retro action figure’s hands.

Aquaman:
This figure has the most boyish face, not really that of a warrior, but at least he has a weapon- and it fits in his hands really good. I like the classic orange & green outfit much better than some of the modern incarnations of this fish, and the screen printed scale pattern is a nice touch. He has the same flimsy belt issue as Superman, but it seems to sit on the figure better. Aquaman has one metal snap at the top of his back that holds his tightly fitting unitard up- this I appreciate. The lack of chunky boots make the posture issue he shares with the rest of the Retro Action figures make his ability to stand somewhat of a challenge. Like Lex Luthor and Batman, the old Mego oven mitt issue is solved by molding his hands in the same color of green as his arm bands- @lex of Toy Haven agrees that this was a good decision. He’s fun!

Until next time, may you all swim in an ocean of FUN and EXCITING toys- don't forget your towel!
