MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Webstor, Faker, & Jitsu

Webstor, Faker, and Jitsu were all Masterverse figures I collected on the secondary market last year, coming into the game late after three years of telling myself that Mattel's MOTU Origins line was all I was interested in. But over time I was swayed by this fantastic 7" line of Masters of the Universe figures- the more recent New Eternia figures most especially.

Webstor:
The only figure of these three I didn't have from the original MOTU line in the '80s, this Webstor has fantastic detail in the face, with its translucent red eyes. His grapple gun has retractable claws, the line of which can be fed through the backpack like the original toy. The added spider arms are articulated as well.

Faker:
My childhood Faker action figure from 1983 was one of my favorites, and this New Eternia version does not disappoint! I'm particularly fond of the sculpted chest panel revealing the character's robotic nature. The figure was featured on cross-sell art with a magenta chest armor at some point, contrary to the figure's orange chest armor, homaged here on the New Eternia Faker.

Jitsu:
Jitsu was one of the last figures I got from the original MOTU line back in '84, and another childhood favorite I regretted selling until picking up the Origins Jitsu, and now this 7" Masterverse New Eternia version. They kept the vac-metal hand and added a gnarly jaw muzzle- so great!

I've been loving these 7" Masterverse figures and have several more to showcase here on the Super-DuperToyBox! I never could afford the 6" Masters of the Universe Classics line from a decade ago, but these are easier to acquire at retail instead of that old pesky MattyCollector site. Stay tuned!

MOTU Origins Wave 7

I had MOTU Origins Wave 7  on preorder at BBTS for quite some time, but happened upon them in a local Target a couple weekends ago. I was most excited about Jitsu, a figure from the original Masters of the Universe line I owned back in 1984, but I was certainly interested in the rest of the wave. Check out the video:

Sorceress and Stratos were strait-up repaints of two figures Mattel recently produced in the Origins line, the former a more traditional redeco of the Temple of Darkness Sorceress that was included with the recent Origins Castle Grayskull, the latter a mini comic version of  the Wave 4 Stratos.

Below, Sorceress and Stratos greet He-Man, arriving at Castle Grayskull in the Wind Raider...

Buzz-Off was a new character for me, having missed his 1984 debut in the original Masters of the Universe line, but I had my original Jitsu until just a few years ago. I loved that Jitsu figure as a child, and couldn't wait to get the Origins version, which didn't disappoint. Neither did Buzz-Off, with his removeable visor...

Like the other MOTU Origins figures, Wave 7 included a mini comic, Challenge of Jitsu, including all four characters. Artwork from the original Masters figures, drawn by Alfred Alcala set my young imagination alight. I enjoy seeing these in the new Origins line, and hope it does for kids today what it did for us in the '80s. Visit the Battle Ram Blog to see more about the original mini comics and Masters of the Universe toys!

Aside from some small paint QC issues on the Sorceress and Stratos, I enjoyed this wave. I anticipate we will see a lot more from Mattel in the Origins line in 2022, and am looking forward to it- the nostalgia this line aroused is palpable! Hands down, my favorite action figure line of the last year!

Toys From My Childhood: Masters of The Universe

My brother & I had an impressive collection of Masters of The Universe toys back in the early 80's. It's sad to see there isn't much left of them, but it's only because they were really played with by us and then the neices and nephew, and whoever other friend's children came around after we had moved out. And that makes me happy :)

BattleCat was awesome- he had no articulation, but the sculpt is great! Mine has the tip of the tail snapped off, and his armor has some fading/discoloration. He was definitely played with. His gnarly coloring & armor design is proof at how trippy this toy line was!

The beefy blue guy atop BattleCat isn't He-Man- that's Faker, He-Man's "evil twin", created by his arch nemesis Skeletor! He outlived both my He-Man figures  :D  He didn't have blue skin or funky orange armor in the single episode of the animated 80's television show by Filmation in which he appeared.

Man-E-Faces was an example of some of the fun , imaginative character design with this toy line, with the ability to change his faces from a human face to a monster face to a robot face by twisting the dial atop his head...

Next up is my favorite of these- Jitsu, who like Faker, appeared only once in the cartoon, and with no character development at all. According to Wikipedia, his name was "Chopper" in the script, but he was never called by name, nor did he have his famous golden hand...

I always liked this toy because I could remove the hand  :D

Mattel is making a killing off the new Masters of the Universe Classics, which looks totally awesome... and somewhat expensive. And if you miss out on MattyCollector's release of these, you will pay even more on the secondary market, many single figures running from $40.00- $60.00 each! People are going bonkers for them! In the 80's they were a BIG deal, too- we had many of the figures, a few of the vehicles, and even a Castle Greyskull playset. They were FUN toys that bring back good memories!
