The Asgardians Vs. The Frost Giants!

The Warriors Three arrived with Battle Hammer Thor just in time:  my very territorial clutch of Frost Giants first ruthlessly attacked Captain Cold, then stupidly jumped Thanos, who thumped 'em only 2 weeks later.  Let's just say that when Thor & Friends arrived, there was instantly a fight!

Well that might've done the trick! I didn't expect those Frost Giants to cause so much trouble when I went crazy & bought four of them, but I did know they'd be a lot of FUN  :D

Thanos Vs. The Frost Giants!

I'm now certain it wasn't a Hasbro/Mattel rivalry when the Frost Giants attacked Captain Cold a couple weeks ago- just this morning they jumped my Hasbro Marvel Universe Thanos! This was a BIG mistake. Captain Cold isn't that smart, and certainly doesn't have a killer instinct, so rolling him was one thing... but Thanos is a real thug and wasn't about to take any unwarranted attacks lying down. And when the Skrulls showed up, a large can of whoop-ass was promptly opened & administered!  :D   Luckily I had just returned to my domicile with the camera...

Right here is when the Skrulls showed up, but I felt like Thanos was actually getting on top of the situation by then anyway. He had just knee-dropped that dark Frost Giant in the crotch, then flopped on top of him! The Skrulls are dumb, but loyal- they stick close to Thanos, and I was surprised the Frost Giants got as far as they did before they showed up armed to the teeth.

Then Thanos REALLY got mad!

After a terrible brawl, the Frost Giants were line up on their knees in front of the Dark Titan (how he prefers to address pretty much anyone), and a long list of grisly intentions that would make your blood run cold were recited.

Right after that last shot I broke it up- Thanos was gritting his teeth, talking in a low growl, and squeezing the Frost Giant's face really hard. I spent plenty buying those Frost Giants, and I didn't want to find out what Thanos had in mind for them after attacking him. Thanos is a vengeful one, and I had a feeling there would be little blue limbs spread all over the room if I hadn't intervened. Maybe the Frost Giants will think twice now before jumping someone in the toy vault.

Captain Cold Vs. The Frost Giants!

As feared, the Frost Giant clan has become a little territorial over here at the Super-DuperToyBox. Several skirmishes have broken out in the toy vault, Mr. Freeze has been aloof & apprehensive, and then it happened: they attacked Captain Cold!

It wasn't pretty, and Cold is pretty shook up, so he'll be hanging with Flash & the guys in the Retro-Action bin for the time being. I don't know if it's a Mattel/Hasbro thing or a DC/Marvel problem, but I have a feeling neither matters to the Frost Giants- they are just T-R-O-U-B-L-E. They just looked all pissed off when I got cross with them about it... I don't think it got through and I'm a little worried about who will be next!

Thor Movie Figures: Frost Giants!

In spite of the two hundred or so action figures I've managed to accumulate in the past year, I never considered myself an army builder in the conventional sense, like some who amass several of the same figure (such as a group of stormtroopers, to line up with their Darth Vader). But upon seeing Slangards review of these over at Hippopotomi On The Lam, I ran out to hunt some down.

There are two types: the lighter blue Invasion Frost Giant, and the darker blue Deluxe Ice Attack Frost Giant, the latter costing an absurd five dollars more for three more accessories: two spring loaded projectiles, and an ice axe. While the extra value in these repaints with more accessories are equivocal at best, thoughts of the photo possibilities consumed me, and so I ignored Slangards' advice on picking up only one of the deluxe models and bought two of each. Their whole clan vibe plainly lent themselves to the assembly, & that's just how I roll.

The each came with an "icepick" hand weapon in addition to the included club and helmet, so they are pretty well armed for a bunch of naked savages. Like the helmets, they are made of a softer, translucent plastic that can be slipped over the arm.

The sculpt and paint on these are really fun- Slangards would have preferred a fist as opposed to the gesturing right hand, but I kinda like that. We both are fans of the tribal scarification lines that are sculpted into the legs, chest & back of these gruesome little guys- nice touch!

Their grisly looks become even more apparent without the helmets- Gaah!! I mean, ya know your cold, bad, & ugly when you wear an ice helmet, right??

Like I said, the Deluxe Ice Attack Frost Giants come with an extra ice axe and two spring loaded projectiles, the missile released not by a button, but by thumbing the back end of the shaft. As Slangards pointed out, the ice axe is cool, but they can only hold it or the mace due to their gesturing left hand sculpt.

Ya know what else I liked about these? Their gnarly looking bare feet!  I don't have a foot fetish or anything, but how often do you see an action figure with bare feet?  This really adds to their savage appearance!

Enough about their frosty phalanges though, we all know the reason I bought four of these- my love for BIG TOY/little toy!  Yes, the prospect of gathering a clan of worshippers for my 12" Savage Frost Giant was too much for my obsessive/compulsive mind to bear   :D

The giants of Jotunheim are based on Norse mythology, and enemies of the gods of Asgard, the first of which who battled Odin being the Ice Giant Ymir. Odin's adopted son Loki was the child of the Giant Laufey, who perished at the hand of Odin, his orphaned son adopted by the Asgardian king thereafter.

Go read my post on this awesome Marvel Gigantic Battles Savage Frost Giant/Loki set by Hasbro- one of the coolest things I found this summer!

If you don't think these are fun, then I can't help you!  I had a ball taking three batches of over 300 pictures of these, so I'm sure you'll see them again   :D

4" Thor Movie Figures by Hasbro

Ever since I saw some of these Thor movie figures on someone's blog a few days ago, I became obsessed with getting some! I really liked the pictures of Loki, and was mad about the Frost Giants, so I grabbed some after work today  :D

Thor, Odin, & Loki...

I was never an army builder with multiples of the same character, but these Frost Giants are all big & gnarly lookin' with ugly feet- like my prom date! Love at first sight! I bought four  :D

Here are separate shots of the two variety. The Deluxe Ice Attack versions were considerably more- the included extra accessories & projectile hardly warrant the extra cost, but I wanted a little variety in color... that's the kind of nut job I am...

I've been working all through the weekend, but have squeezed in a viewing of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008), which blew my mind, and a dress rehearsal with one of my bands for the show next weekend. I hope you have got a little time to play with your toys, I have  :D

Marvel Universe Thor

I picked up this modern version of Thor three weeks ago at Wal-Mart, having passed on him one too many times. I was thinking of getting a more classic version of the Thunder God, but this costume really grew on me!

This is the costume designed by Oliver Coipel for Thor's new ongoing title in 2007. Redefining the look of such a longstanding & iconic character is tricky, and been done poorly for Thor in the past, but this really looks cool! The body armor and toned-down colors work really well, and the cape is really well sculpted on this beefy Marvel Universe offering. And check out out the sculpt on his tiny hammer, Mjolnir...

Uh oh... seems as though Thor's evil brother Loki and his Savage Frost Giant have challenged the mighty Norse God of Thunder...

...And Thor confidently accepts!

The Son of Odin quickly gets on top of things!
