MOTU Masterverse Battle Cat, 40th Anniv. & Battle Armor He-Man, Teela, Prince Adam

Plowing through some more Masterverse I've been collecting this past year! When Mattel dropped solicitations for both the Masterverse and Origins line, I decided then and there to stick to the Origins line- firmly rooted in my nostalgia for the original '80s toys. I stuck to that for a few years, but after picking a couple Masterverse figures up I was hooked! I've done three posts on Masterverse villains, so I figured it was time to bust open some of the Heroic Warriors!

Prince Adam and Teela are Revelations figures based on the Netflix series, but Teela transforms into a pretty traditional look with the tiara crowned alternate head. Price Adam has a secondary laughing head, as well as two swords- one translucent/sparkly, the other metallic/standard.

The Masterverse 40th Anniversary He-Man pairs well with my New Eternia Skeletor...

I believe another, beardless Battle Armor He-Man is coming out in the Masterverse line, but I love this one- his shield w/the family crest is fantastic, I love the way it pegs onto the left arm bracer and his back. He even has a sheathed knife in his boot!

The Masterverse Battle Cat with my Origins Battle Cat...

The saddle on the Origins Battle Cat is made of firmer plastic, and the Origins He-Man sits atop his mount better than the Masterverse, which has more articulation than the Origins. In spite of this, the Origins Battle Cat has a wider range of side-to-side motion.

and Masterverse Teela with Origins Teela...

I have a lot more MOTU to post here on the Super-DuperToyBox, both Masterverse and Origins. Be sure to visit the Battle Ram Blog online to read all about the history of the Masters of the Universe line that began in 1982- a favorite memory of my childhood!

MOTU Origins Battlefield Warriors Battle Armor He-Man & Battle Cat

It was a long time looking, but I finally got ahold of the new Target exclusive Battlefield Warriors Battle Armor He-Man and Battle Cat last weekend. Based on the current, plentiful stock of the recent Rise of Evil 2-pk no one could get ahold of initially, I think we'll see more of these in the wild. Regardless, it's a fantastic set  I hope you find soon- check out the video:

While it's mildly annoying having to cough up for what is basically the same figure as the recent Deluxe Battle Armor He-Man, and our second Battle Cat, the vac-metal armor and full power sword are nice upgrades, and I like the slightly more vibrant Battle Cat. We also get a base that matches the new Castle Grayskull with a couple small gargoyles to help build out your MOTU Origins display-  the vehicles in this line have all come with nice flight bases, as well. But the update I like most on this set was the windswept hair/pen mouth on the additional head, modeled after the original He-Man portrait. We got a similar treatment on the Deluxe Battle Armor He-Man, which used the newer character portrait. I may buck the trend among collectors in my approval of the updated He-Man portrait, which could be the reason for the retro He-Man and Skeletor face sculpts showing up more frequently in new releases.

Below, Battlefield Wariors Battle Armor He-Man and
Battle Cat with my Battle Armor Skeletor and Panthor ...

And finally, Battlefield Warriors He-Man & Battle Cat with some of the other Heroic Warriors guarding my MOTU Origins Castle Grayskull: She-Ra, Roboto, and Zodac of Wave 3, Stratos, Ram Man, Teela, Man-at-Arms, and of course, Temple of Darkness Sorceress who lives there...

MOTU Origins Panthor

During my county-wide hunt that produced the MOTU Origins Prince Adam Sky Sled last weekend, I also found Panthor at another local Target. Collectors have bemoaned Mattel's initial exclusivity agreement with Walmart, and we're all glad things opened up for all the other retailers her in 2021. There will be a Walmart exclusive flocked version of Panthor this year, which I will pick up if I see it.

I never had Panthor as a kid in the '80s, but gee-whiz he looks cool with Skeletor in the saddle! This Savage Cat fit nicely with his Master in the Funko Primal Age Batcave I picked up this past year. I bought the Funko Batcave because I could not wait to get the forthcoming MOTO Origins Castle Grayskull, and scored it for twenty-five bucks, but it's every bit worth sixty or more if you have the opportunity!

The Funko Primal Age Batcave is the perfect place to stage
Prince Adam's escape from Skeletor, Beastman, and Evil-Lyn ...!

...left in Prince Adam's place is his alter ego, He-Man, Most Powerful Man in the Universe!

Panthor is of course the same sculpt as Battle Cat, which was a vast improvement of the 1982 original, a reused mold from a 1971 Tarzan and the Jungle Cat gift set, used again in '76 for the Big Jim Tiger Trail Set. That toy had no articulation- still, we loved it as kids. These new cats are a fantastic start to the MOTU Origins Series, carrying the spirit of the legendary toy line, with updated articulation for better play.

If you own a MOTU Origins Skeletor, pick up his mount, Panthor! Recommended!

Mattel MOTU Origins He Man, Skeletor & Battle Cat

Super 7 recently produced what appeared to be recasts of several of the original Masters of the Universe action figures from the '80s, but it was these new Mattel MOTU Origins figures that caught my eye. I had admired the 7" Classics line Mattel released a few years back, but their cost was prohibitive to the casual MOTU collector. With the Origins line, we get the look of the '80s figures with enhanced articulation at a far more attractive price. Check out the video:

Theses toys include all the accessories the original 1982 figures came with: He-Man with shield, battle axe, and sword, Skeletor with Havoc staff and sword. Like the original figures, He-Man and Skeletor's  swords snap together to form a single, complete Power Sword. Aside from slightly updated head sculpts, these figures are very true to the '82 MOTU, but with updated articulation. Even the packaging is directly revisited, Battle Cat's box brandished with great art in the spirit of '82. Visit the Battle Ram Blog for a more in depth look at the vintage 1982-1988 Mattel  Masters of the Universe line. Great memories!

Mattel has revealed a Panthor mount for Skeletor, Orko, Trapjaw, and Prince Adam with a Sky Sled, among much more forthcoming in the Origins line! I am definitely interested in getting a few more of these as they are released here in the fourth quarter, particularly a Man at Arms, Beast Man, and Scareglow! I couldn't deny the nostalgic appeal of this MOTU Origins line- recommended!

Toys From My Childhood: Masters of The Universe

My brother & I had an impressive collection of Masters of The Universe toys back in the early 80's. It's sad to see there isn't much left of them, but it's only because they were really played with by us and then the neices and nephew, and whoever other friend's children came around after we had moved out. And that makes me happy :)

BattleCat was awesome- he had no articulation, but the sculpt is great! Mine has the tip of the tail snapped off, and his armor has some fading/discoloration. He was definitely played with. His gnarly coloring & armor design is proof at how trippy this toy line was!

The beefy blue guy atop BattleCat isn't He-Man- that's Faker, He-Man's "evil twin", created by his arch nemesis Skeletor! He outlived both my He-Man figures  :D  He didn't have blue skin or funky orange armor in the single episode of the animated 80's television show by Filmation in which he appeared.

Man-E-Faces was an example of some of the fun , imaginative character design with this toy line, with the ability to change his faces from a human face to a monster face to a robot face by twisting the dial atop his head...

Next up is my favorite of these- Jitsu, who like Faker, appeared only once in the cartoon, and with no character development at all. According to Wikipedia, his name was "Chopper" in the script, but he was never called by name, nor did he have his famous golden hand...

I always liked this toy because I could remove the hand  :D

Mattel is making a killing off the new Masters of the Universe Classics, which looks totally awesome... and somewhat expensive. And if you miss out on MattyCollector's release of these, you will pay even more on the secondary market, many single figures running from $40.00- $60.00 each! People are going bonkers for them! In the 80's they were a BIG deal, too- we had many of the figures, a few of the vehicles, and even a Castle Greyskull playset. They were FUN toys that bring back good memories!
