Super Hero Adventures Mega Mighties Thanos

This Super Hero Adventures Mega Mighties Thanos was really intended for small children, but it's oversized features and simplified styling reminds me of an import vinyl or designer toy. Playskool produced several other characters in this line, such as Iron Man, Spider-Man, Capt. Marvel, and Black Panther, as well as some Star Wars and Power Rangers figures, but this Thanos is unique among them. If an extra hand and/or head were included, Playskool could triple the price and call it a designer vinyl. While I've little interest in most the others, I compulsively picked this up at Big Lots for ten bucks- a larger figure and better play value than your average Funko POP...

The obvious comparison to these Playskool Mega Mighties would be the Fisher-Price DC Imaginext XL figures, also measuring in at 10 inches. Thanos has a waist swivel, traded for hip articulation in the DC XL figures, and enjoys a ball joint under his head for a little more expression. Otherwise, they are very similar, with swivel wrists and swivel/hinge shoulders. Below, the Imaginext XL Batman in Bat-Tech Blue from my last post...

And finally, Mega Mighties Thanos with some others in my collection: 4" Marvel Universe Thanos, 8" Marvel Select Thanos, and 7" Marvel Legends Infinity Gauntlet Thanos ...

Marvel Legends Infinity Gauntlet Thanos & Obsidian Surfer

I acquired the Marvel Legends Deluxe Infinity Gauntlet Thanos and Walgreens Exclusive Obsidian Surfer within a week of one another, the former for free using Amazon points, and the Surfer during my only sighting in the wild since. I'd been on the fence regarding Thanos, as I've owned a fantastic classic Marvel Select Thanos for years. This long awaited Marvel Legends Thanos had some extra articulation points however, and may scale better with other 6" Hasbro figures. Also included was an alternate snapping-fingers left hand, an accessory that seems almost crucial at this point.

While I've read The Infinity Gauntlet, I've not read the story from the recent pages of Thanos, were King Thanos brings back young Thanos to fight the Fallen One, or Obsidian Surfer, wielding Mjolnir, returning to kill the Titan for destroying everyone in the Universe.

Obsidian Surfer includes flame effects for his hands in addition to Mjolnir, and Thanos an additional King Thanos head sculpt, allowing fans to reenact the Thanos Wins storyline. I'll refrain from spoiling much, though will say Obsidian Surfer does not emerge the victor.

Below. Thanos with a few other larger Marvel Legends: Thing, Venompool, Beast and Hulk...

And finally, Obsidian Surfer with Marvel Legends Walgreens Exclusive Fantastic Four...

While I have the regular Marvel Legends Silver Surfer still  boxed, on ice, and more than one Thanos figure, I like this darker release of the Surfer, and I didn't pay anything for the Infinity Gauntlet Thanos. Both are really nice figures! Recommended!

Marvel Legends Avengers Endgame Smart Hulk BAF Series

The main drive to acquire this Marvel Legends wave was to assemble the Endgame "Smart Hulk", but I do like most all the other figures, Rescue being the primary figure of interest. After first being announced, I was more excited about Shuri, but Beta Ray Bill, Union Jack, & Loki interest me more now. Additionally, I can pair the Endgame Power Gauntlet accessory included with the Mark LXXXV Iron Man in my last post. Check out the video:

Above, Professor Hulk gets his Power Gauntlet fit by Iron Man Mark LXXXV, and below standing gauntlet to gauntlet with the Avengers Endgame Thanos BAF I recently picked up loose on the secondary market. What a great looking pair of action figures! See more pairings and comparisons in the video above!

Marvel Legends Infinity War Wave Thanos BAF

There was a fair enough amount to like this Infinity War Wave for a lot of Marvel Legends collectors, but I was mainly in for the Thanos BAF. I also liked the Iron Spider, and Songbird has a retro Marvel Comics appeal to her, but I'll likely sell most of these on the Super-DuperToyBox eBay store in the future. There was also a Bleeding Edge Iron Man, but I'm fully stocked on that character, and was pleased with the Black Panther Wave Invisible Iron Man, which included a Tony Stark head. Check out the video:

Marvel Legends 2018 Walmart Exclusive Thanos

I ran into a few of these Walmart Exclusive Thanos finally, surprised by news of this repackaged BAF from the 2015 Thanos Wave with Batroc, Hellcat and Spider-Woman. Threre was also another Captain America, Iron Man, and Hulk from the Age of Ultron movie. I had interest in Hellcat initially, having read Marvel NOW! She-Hulk relaunch in 2014, but had stopped collecting Legends for a few years there. The packaging on this looks great, as does the figure inside. At the price of a regular Legends figure on the pegs, getting this beefy 7.25" figure with extra head and Infinity Gauntlet accessories is a decent value.

The recoloring of the previous, more darkly painted Thanos in his classic colors looks great. Accentuated by silver panel lines throughout the limbs, the figure has an all-over metallic finish, the Infinity Stones individually colored on the gauntlet. The skin is darker than the previous version as well, one with the iconic evil grin, one close-lipped.

The articulation is pretty limited, due in large part to the bulk of the figure, but the hips are just poorly designed and nearly immobile. The abdominal hinge is also extremely limited, unfortunately, and the elbows aren't a great deal better. Still, he'll mostly stand on the shelf, Infinity Gauntlet outstretched in a menacing fashion. I'm mostly okay with that for now because this Thanos is just such a great looking action figure- a great value for that alone at twenty bucks, in spite of the limited articulation.

Below, Thanos with another shiny Marvel Legends BAF, the 2013 Iron Man 3 Wave Iron Monger. Like Thanos, Iron Monger has a lot of looks, but limited range of articulation...

Perhaps my favorite BAF was last year's Gladiator Hulk,
who by comparison had better articulation than Thanos in my opinion...

And finally, the Marvel Legends Thanos with my Marvel Select Thanos and smaller Marvel Universe Thanos, who were also styled after the classic look of the character. The Marvel Select is perhaps the best Diamond Select has ever released, and one of my favorite action figures. And while I've sold off most all of my 3.75" Marvel Universe figures, I've held onto this Thanos...

Lego Mighty Micros Iron Man Vs Thanos

There were at least three other Marvel Lego Mighty Micro sets, and we've all seen the DC sets, but I was compelled most by the vehicles in this set, particularly Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet car- nice! The vehicles are even smaller than I expected, the figures included fit with shorter, unarticulated legs, This past week, I picked up some of these shorter Lego minifigs on eBay, but opted to pick up the box set with vehicles for these two. The vehicles roll, each with moving parts, the jets on Iron Man's car, and each finger on Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet car. Fun! I had these together pretty quickly, and am very happy with them- if you only get one, get this set!

I love the abbreviated stature & whimsical style of these figures! For a comparison between the Mighty Micro and regular Lego minifigs, Mark 45 Iron Man from my latest Christmas Day post...

A Clash of Titans- Drax Vs. Thanos!

As promised at the end of my last post on the ToyBiz Drax (above), a Clash of Titans featuring Drax Vs. my Marvel Select Thanos- probably one of my favorite action figures! I had way too much fun shooting these pics, but hey- toys are for playing with!  :D

And now from my Life and Death of Captain Marvel trade paperback, originally appearing in Captain Marvel Vol.1, issue #28 (Sept. 1973), Chapter IV: A Clash of Titans! Drax, whose sole purpose is to destroy the Mad Titan, stands in the way of Thanos' possession of the Cosmic Cube. No longer content to merely swat him down, the Dark One locks the Destroyer's mind into a time-mind sync-warp, pushing him to the furthest reaches of his id to find the mad prison of... insanity! I'm not a fan of how they recolored a lot of these earlier Marvel stories, but it's a bizarre sequence with some trippy artwork...
