Marvel Legends Iron Spider (Spider-Man 60th Anniversary)

The Marvel Legends Spider-Man 60th Anniversary releases are kicking off Hasbro's plastic-free action figure box initiative, and I was surprised to see the Iron Spider at Target last weekend. I've seen similar packaging in Hasbro's Fort Nite action figures, but this is my first window-less action figure package I've bought. There's some controversy about this, and sure enough, mine had a small nick in the eye paint. At least a scalper had not switched contents and returned the item. I was never exclusively a mint on card collector, but I will miss the ability to scrutinize an action figure's quality before purchasing.
The price tag has indeed gone up on Marvel Legends, this figure ringing up at $31.49 retail, $1.57 off that for using my Target Red Card. While I think we deserved a third pair of wall-crawling hands for that price, the Marvel Legends brand has continued toward import quality in paint and articulation, this Iron Spider also sporting pin-less joints throughout. Hasbro knows the import market taps some of their demographic, and if they can improve some things while still coming in well under import prices, they will ask the consumer for more $$$. Regardless, this is the comic book Iron Spider that Marvel Legends fans have been waiting for.

Below, Iron Spider with my Marvel Legends Modular Iron Man. While the former's first appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #529 in 2006, I liked this '90s Iron Man paired with him...

Carnage from the Marvel Legends Venom Wave I reviewed at the end of 2020...

Marvel Studios changes things from the comics, but certainly pulls a lot from them, this Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider a fine example. There are four "waldoes" instead of three, and a lot of Spider-Man's original look remains intact, but it's a Spider-Man enhanced by Tony Stark's technology. An Iron Spider, if you will.

I opened another Fortnite Victory Royale Arcade Machine to complement the other one I reviewed her last year. This one has a couple semi-realistic assault rifles and a water container. These along with some custom crates and a boombox I picked up just add a little background to my Marvel Legends.

Marvel Legends Avengers Infinity War Iron Man Mark 50/Iron Spider 2pk

I picked up this Marvel Legends Infinity War Iron Man Mark 50/Iron Spider 2pk off Amazon in November of 2019 for a somewhat inflated price, a Toys 'R Us exclusive I never got to see due to the retail chain going into bankruptcy and shutting down in April of 2018. Nevertheless, I couldn't pass on it, as Hasbro's initial releases of both these figures were bereft of the important accessories this 2pk, perhaps most importantly Iron Spider's waldoes/mechanical arms. I had temporarily appeased myself with a Chinese bootleg Iron Spider, which was nice, but lacked the articulation of the Marvel Legends version.

In addition to the array of weapons included with this newer Mark L Iron Man, he received a more metallic paint app upgrade. The floating energy shields that peg onto the back are the star of this figure's accessories, but the nano-enhanced repulsor cannons also help the figure function more like the highly advanced Mark L armor in Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers: Endgame, probably my favorite MCU Marvel Legends Iron Man...

I'm unsure why the first release of this Iron Spider didn't include the waldoes, but this is the version we wanted. There was a fair amount of criticism regarding Hasbro's initial Marvel Legends Infinity War wave, including a somewhat goofy looking Thanos without his iconic battle armor, another mistake that was also later rectified. Also included with Iron Spider was a Peter Parker head that captures actor Tom Holland pretty well.

Below, the 2pk Infinity War Iron Spider with the initial 2018 Infinity War Wave Iron Spider without waldoes. Note the new forearms and slightly more vivid red coloring. I love the design of this outfit, but regret the waste of plastic by making us buy it twice to get what we wanted in the first place. We were trying to build that somewhat underwhelming Thanos BAF you also had to do over. Complaints aside, I do love this 2pk, and was glad to pay a little extra for an enthusiastically sought after pair of figures.

Of course I had to include a shot with my new Marvel Legends Stan Lee!

Chinese Market Bootleg Infinity War Iron Spider

These Chinese market bootleg Avengers Infinity War  Iron Spider figures have been showing up stateside in the last year or more, the market driven by nerds disappointed in Hasbro's failure to include the waldoes on their recent Marvel Legends version. I picked mine up last July from one of the many eBay sellers shipping for south of sixteen bucks. Late to the game, I knew what I was getting into, several YouTube reviews already having been published, and he's about what I thought he'd be. Check out the video:

The articulation is lacking in this bootleg, but the glossy red paint makes him flashy, and the gold highlights and Iron Spider chest insignia sculpt rival the Marvel Legends figure. Hasbro really missed the mark, still not having produced a waldoes-wearing Spidey when we could get a bootleg all the way from China, and import's like S.H. Figuarts and Mafex that include this crucial accessory. Also worth mentioning, the flight stand included with the bootleg is great- Hasbro, take note.

Below, Chinese bootleg Iron Spider with my Marvel Legends Infinity War Iron Spider. I've seen others use the articulated waldoes from these bootlegs to modify their Hasbro Iron Spider with success, but I'm unsure I want to desecrate my Marvel Legends figure. For now he's a shiny novelty decorating my detolf case, which I enjoy.

Marvel Legends Infinity War Wave Thanos BAF

There was a fair enough amount to like this Infinity War Wave for a lot of Marvel Legends collectors, but I was mainly in for the Thanos BAF. I also liked the Iron Spider, and Songbird has a retro Marvel Comics appeal to her, but I'll likely sell most of these on the Super-DuperToyBox eBay store in the future. There was also a Bleeding Edge Iron Man, but I'm fully stocked on that character, and was pleased with the Black Panther Wave Invisible Iron Man, which included a Tony Stark head. Check out the video:

Hasbro Iron Spider-2008

I just sold this Iron Spider that had been in my collection forever, an item purchased while amassing several 6" Iron Man variants from some of the first Hasbro began churning out after the initial Armored Avenger's silver screen debut in 2008. According to MarvelLegends.Net, this one is from the Spider-Man Classics Series 3, with gold highlights as opposed to the 2006 Series 1 with yellow. I'd argue this is from the "Spider-Man Super Hero" line however, that brand trademark registered by name of the card verso. That said, this line had been going on since 2001, continually adjusting branding to keep 6" figures on the pegs.

More BootLego Marvel!

I'd been posting on Lego and BootLego minifigures last year, before being swept up in whatever other fascination that overcame me, neglecting to show some of the other things I'd found on eBay. So let's take a look at some of these Marvel minifigures...

I totally forgot this great little Iron Man with the flip-up mask and robotic arm accessory:

Looks like Hulk wants to help out with repairs... hopefully he won't get frustrated and smash!

I had two color variants of the Vision, one with a ray gun and pop-up base...

Wolverine and Deadpool seemed like partners to me with all those blades...

Perhaps best of all these were the three Spider-Man minifigures!

I loved the web ropes that came with Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man, who also came with a lamppost accessory. Iron Spider's tentacle arms sit on a brick behind him, but he still looks great...

And finally, a size comparison between Lego minifigure Spider-Men and a couple of my MiniMates Spider-Men to show just how tiny the former are...
