Marvel Legends Dracula

I preordered this Marvel Legends Dracula loose from Nerdzoic awhile back, forgoing the BAF figure piece to build Blackheart as part of the recent "Strange Tales" Wave. A few others interested me, but you can't have everything. I'd love to see a '70s Gene Colan Tomb of Dracula figure from Hasbro, but I liked the sculpt on this newer version in medieval armor. I really appreciate the alternate head accessory with a neutral facial expression and love the sword. That ponytail is articulated/has a swivel. I've not seen this version of Dracula in Marvel Comics, but I purchased it based purely on its merits as an action figure.

Marvel Legends 85th Anniversary Hulkbuster

Man, are we getting a lot of plus-sized Marvel Legends figures coming in! I got ten bucks off this big buy recently, which certainly helped me to pull the trigger. This Hulkbuster is about 9.25" tall and 2.350 lbs. -it feels substantial. The outer chest armor can be removed, and the helmet exchanged for a Tony Stark head. His joints are pretty tight, and while his girth limits his articulation to the expected degree, he can do quite a bit for such a bulky figure.

But what we came for here today was a rumble with
my Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Hulk ...

Below, Hulkbuster with my Marvel Legends Invincible Iron Man, which also came with an alternate Tony Stark head. This Hulkbuster looks a lot like what is referred to as part of the Model 13 Modular Iron Man suit with a style/details update to the overall aesthetic, but has also been directly referred to as its own Model 14 armor.

And now for some more comparisons:
with my Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Hulk and Spider-Man Retro Card Series Rhino...

...with my Marvel Legends Ulik and Thing...

...with my Marvel Legends Venompool and Mister Hyde...

...can you imagine Mark 1 Iron Man bumping into Hulkbuster at the arcade ...?

And finally, Hulkbuster with my Marvel Legends Iron Man 3 Wave BAF Iron Monger, absolutely dwarfed by the former. The Marvel Legends has come a long way since it's relaunch in 2012- the figures are better than ever and there are more of them- well over 1,300 and counting. The character lineup is astounding, and they are bordering on import-level quality, with more accessories and extra hands/heads. I've written 158 posts about them here on the Super-DuperToybox in the last 14 years, and this won't likely be my last! Excelsior!

Marvel Legends Hallows' Eve

I am a huge fan of the various Marvel Legends Retro-Card series, particularly the Spider-Man series. I have several Fantastic Four and X-Men Retro-Card figures as well. Hallows' Eve is my newest, but she's getting set free ahead of others on deck because it's Halloween. I have zero experience with this character from the comics, but I loved the Halloween theme.

A demonic shapeshifter that takes on the form of whichever mask she dons, Janine Godbe, formerly Elizabeth Tyne, was also the girlfriend of Ben Reilly, the clone of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Thes masks aren't really designed to fit onto Hallows' Eve, but I was able to fudge it somewhat ...

Since it's Halloween, Hallows' Eve with my Marvel Legends Demogoblin and Hobgoblin BAFs:

And finally, Hallow's Eve with my Marvel Legends Renew Your Vows Spider-Man. I do also have the original Retro-Card Spider-Man and the rest of that entire first wave from 2020 unopened, as well as a dozen more Spider-Man Retro-Card figures.

Happy Halloween! Make It FUN!

Marvel Legends Sam Wilson Captain America

This Target exclusive Sam Wilson Captain America is a re-release of a figure that came in a 3pk some years ago- that figure did not include wings, nor the large, handsome shield unique to this character. There were complaints about the cash-grab nature of this figure, but I never had the first release, so I was happy to see him.

I had not realized how many parts Sam shared with my Marvel NOW! Captain America from a decade ago- I'm still fond of that figure, and they make a great pair...

Below, Sam Wilson Capt. America with my Marvel Legends Falcon ...

And finally, Sam Wilson Captain America with my Marvel Legends

In spite of the collector community's misgivings regarding this release, I was glad to finally have a Sam Wilson Captain America with his wings. I have an MCU Sam Wilson/Steve Rogers Captain America 2pk Hasbro gave me that frustratingly does not include wings- an exclusion that made no sense and consequently sold poorly. For myself, this release feels like a wrong made right.

Marvel Legends Wolfsbane & Cable

I picked these two Marvel Legends up loose on the secondary market because I could see that at least Cable was soon going to skyrocket in price. I'd been kind of burnt out/overloaded on Marvel Legends, but I have a soft spot for the blue/yellow X-Men outfits.

I actually had another Wolfsbane- a portrait and hands for the New Mutants member Rahne Sinclair was included with the Dani Moonstar I found at Walgreens in 2019...

Below, Wolfsbane with another feral Marvel character, Tigra the Feline Fury ...!

I love Cable in the X-Men blue/yellow- the floating belt with partial torso harness extensions appear more seamless if you keep the belt adjusted higher. I wish he had butterfly joints, but he has decent, modern articulation and he looks great.

X-Men Cable with my Marvel Legends X-Force Cable ...

Below. Cable with his parents, X-Men Jean Grey and Scott Summers, aka Cyclops...

I have more Marvel Legends to share than I have time to photograph, including a bunch more X-Men figures- I'm going to bring some more of that out since I haven't posted on any Marvel Legends in a year. Below, Wolfsbane and Cable with Forge, Wolverine, and Bishop:

Marvel Legends Dump -August 2023

I didn't get all of these figures in August, but most of them I did, so I felt it was a good time to dump a bunch of them onto the blog!

Spider-Man 2 (Gamerverse)
I was disappointed in missing out on the first Gamerverse Spider-Man at GameStop a couple years ago, so getting this upgraded model was sweet. He came with several web accessories and has all the articulation you'd want in a Spider-Man figure, including a toe joint.

Above: Spider-Man Vs. The Lizard   Below: Spider-Man with my Gamerverse Velocity Suit Spider-Man and Spider Armor Mark III form the Marvel Legends Demogoblin Wave...

Quantumania Ultron
I'm not sure why Ultron was in this wave, but collectors who missed out on the Classic Ultron we got in 2021 with the Ursa Major BAF Wave will be glad to see him. His head sculpt is slightly different, and he is sculpted in that swirly metallic plastic instead of painted silver. Below, Quantumania Ultron pictured with Disney + What-If... Ulton BAF and my Classic Ultron...

Guardians of the Galaxy Yondu
I hate exclusives as much as the next collector, but I didn't have any problem preordering this Target Exclusive Yondu. What a presentation- live the color on this figure! He pairs nicely with the Walmart Exclusive Star-Lord we just got!

Moon Knight (Modern)
I've been a fan of Moon Knight since reading about him in Spectacular Spider-Man back in the '70s, and this modern interpretation hits all the right notes. I'm unsure what I'm supposed to do with the extra-small crescent accessories he came with, but he was packed with other useful weapons.

Below, Modern Comics Moon Knight flanked by Disney+ Moon Knight and Mr. Knight:

Heroes Return Iron Man/Model 01 Iron Man
How many Iron Man figures does a Marvel Legends collector need? Apparently two more!

Below, Heroes Return Iron Man and Model 01 Iron Man with some of the other Marvel Legends Iron Men I've collected in the last 3 years: Iron Man 2020   80th Anniversary Classic Iron Man   Modular Iron Man   Model 70 Iron Man   War Machine   Silver Centurion   Stealth Iron Man ...

Avengers: Beyond Earth's Mightiest Heroes Captain Marvel Vs. Doctor Doom 2pk
I read Secret Wars back in the '80s and was particularly fixated on this version of Doctor Doom that looks like the Mattel Secret Wars figure I had then. I was thrilled to see this set solicited a few months ago, and it did not disappoint!

Below: Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel with Mar-Vell Captain Marvel

Hasbro went all the way with Doom, including a Victor Von Doom head sculpt, collapsed hoodie accessory, and mask so we can relive issue #11 of Secret Wars "The Face of Doom" like it's 1985! So good ...!

Below, Secret Wars Doom with my Marvel Legends Classic Doctor Doom

Avengers: Beyond Earth's Mightiest Heroes Black Widow
And finally, a figure I picked up while shooting the rest of these, the newest Marvel Legends Black Widow. I passed on this figure in a local Target a couple weeks ago, but circled back to scoop her up- with three head sculpts, pinless joints (double hinged elbows as well), and all her other weapons/accessories, she is the Black Widow to have in your collection.

The 2018 Marvel Legends Black Widow also had an alternate head with a '60s/retro hairdo ...

Below, Beyond Earth's Mightiest Heroes Black Widow with my 2020 Walmart Exclusive Black Widow, Deadly Origin Black Widow and 2018 Black Widow w/Cycle

I'd have a difficult time choosing a favorite out of this bunch, but it might be the Secret Wars Doom Vs. Captain Marvel 2-pk. I'd love to have a 12" version of that Doom! Honorable mentions to the Model 01 Iron Man, Yondu, and Black Widow, but they are all pretty fantastic. Marvel Legends have become more expensive, but they often rival import-quality figures in the last few years.
