MOTU Masterverse Vintage Collection Skeletor & Faker

My Vintage Collection Skeletor arrived quite some time ago, but the Faker I'd preordered from Walmart months ago was unceremoniously canceled recently, like they have more than once with their Collector Con presales. It was a Con alright. For that transgression, I decided to cancel the other preorder I'd placed. I've drifted further and further away from Walmart for a variety of reasons, but I'm tired of their preorder cancellations. I also passed the scalpers by on eBay and purchased my Vintage Collection Faker from Tech Inn- the box was beat up from international travel without proper packing, but I was going to open it anyway. Took a little longer and I had to pay a little more for shipping, but denying the scalpers and Walmart was worth my money- kick rocks you losers!

Let's just get this out right now and enjoy some photos of my new Vintage Collection Skeletor with the fantastic New Eternia Panthor we finally got this year ...!

Below, Vintage Skeletor with Revelation, New Eternia, Horde, and Battle Armor Skeletor. I've really enjoyed each of these. The New Eternia easily converts into a more classic Skeletor, but the Vintage Collection Skeletor truly has the vibes of that '80s Mattel figure with his power sword and alien, booted feet.

I was actually really happy with my New Eternia Faker but was just as excited to get the latest Vintage Collection Faker. The New Eternia version was also difficult to acquire, and cost me north of forty bucks on Amazon- ridiculous, but I wanted one. Vintage Faker has the same armor as Vintage Skeletor, but the larger chest made it difficult to buckle in back- I had to heat mine with a hair dryer and stretch it out with pliers to close the gap. New Eternia Faker has the same armor as the New Eternia Skeletor.

I want to say my Vintage Collection Faker is just a quarter inch taller the my Vintage He-Man, and I think it has to do with the new torso because the rest of the body appears to be reuse. I see where they were going with the copper accessories, but I wished Mattel just made them orange like our '80s Faker.

Vintage Collection Faker with my New Eternia Faker and MOTU Origins Faker...

Check out my 2011 post featuring Faker and a few other of my original '80s figures!

I'm really happy with these figures- as much as I tried to stay away from the Masterverse line and focus on Origins, I caved in sometime in 2023 and started buying some. I've had a few on ice for awhile in fact, so I'm sure you'll see another post soon enough. Recommended!

Turtles of Grayskull Sla'ker

I've actually had the first two waves of the Turtles of Grayskull for months, but Sla'ker's arrival demanded action, so we're starting here. Faker was a favorite Masters of the Universe action figure of my childhood, so this bizarre '80s mash-up really grabbed me.

Sla'ker came with build-a-figure parts for Metal-Boto, and an over-sized collector card- not sure I'll find all the other parts to assemble the BAF, but most of this can be interchanged with the MOTU Origins, a play feature throughout the line that made it an instant favorite of mine in 2020. Sla'ker's armor is removeable, as is the shell, which doubles as a shield. The headband/mask ribbon pegged onto the head is articulated as well.

Below, Sla'ker with my MOTU Origins Faker, dwarfed by the over-sized Turtles of Grayskull figure. Both have tampographs of their control panels printed on their chests. Super fun having these together!

I never had a Snake Mountain in the '80s, but Sla'ker fits great with this fantastic playset!

And finally, Sla'ker Vs. my Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
who just showed up in the Party Wagon! More Turtles of Grayskull later!

MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Webstor, Faker, & Jitsu

Webstor, Faker, and Jitsu were all Masterverse figures I collected on the secondary market last year, coming into the game late after three years of telling myself that Mattel's MOTU Origins line was all I was interested in. But over time I was swayed by this fantastic 7" line of Masters of the Universe figures- the more recent New Eternia figures most especially.

Webstor:
The only figure of these three I didn't have from the original MOTU line in the '80s, this Webstor has fantastic detail in the face, with its translucent red eyes. His grapple gun has retractable claws, the line of which can be fed through the backpack like the original toy. The added spider arms are articulated as well.

Faker:
My childhood Faker action figure from 1983 was one of my favorites, and this New Eternia version does not disappoint! I'm particularly fond of the sculpted chest panel revealing the character's robotic nature. The figure was featured on cross-sell art with a magenta chest armor at some point, contrary to the figure's orange chest armor, homaged here on the New Eternia Faker.

Jitsu:
Jitsu was one of the last figures I got from the original MOTU line back in '84, and another childhood favorite I regretted selling until picking up the Origins Jitsu, and now this 7" Masterverse New Eternia version. They kept the vac-metal hand and added a gnarly jaw muzzle- so great!

I've been loving these 7" Masterverse figures and have several more to showcase here on the Super-DuperToyBox! I never could afford the 6" Masters of the Universe Classics line from a decade ago, but these are easier to acquire at retail instead of that old pesky MattyCollector site. Stay tuned!

MOTU Origins Faker & Evil-Lyn

The MOTU Origins continues here on the Super-DuperToyBox with Faker and Evil-Lyn, from the fifth wave of this series. I actually found this second color variant of Evil-Lyn in the wild, but somewhat regrettably resorted to the secondary market for Faker, a figure I loved as a child. I've yet to see Fisto on the pegs, who is the star of the included mini comic, Sucker Punch.

Naturally, I'd been shooting a  lot of my MOTU Origins around the new Castle Grayskull, but decided to pull the Funko Primal Age Batcave back out to feature Faker and Evil-Lyn. While the nature of this character was somehow lost on me in 1983, I loved the color scheme of this figure and still do. Faker comes with a full power sword as opposed to the original half sword, the handle for this accessory updated for a better grip.

Below, He-Man and Orko capture Faker with the Wind Raider Assault Lander ...!

Ironically, some collectors have bemoaned Faker not including the updated He-Man head sculpt, but instead their preferred original portrait! Ironic considering Mattel did include the original head sculpt with the Battle Armor He-Man, and a refresh of stock on the single carded He-Man purportedly also includes this.

While I already had the first Origins Evil-Lyn, and kinda liked her acidic colors, the new colorway on this updated figure is quite striking. Noted by it's secondary branding near the bottom of the package, this figure's repainted colorway is inspired by the 2002-2004 animated series.

Featured on this updated Evil-Lyn are the resculpted knees, a huge aesthetic improvement over the series' first female knees. I didn't have an Evil-Lyn back in the '80s, so I've now nostalgia for either colorway, but I do prefer this latest version.

Faker and Evil-Lyn are two key henchmen of Skeletor that I'm glad to have in this second MOTU collection of my life- I'm really enjoying this line. Having had some of the first MOTU toys back in 1982, the nostalgia that MOTU Origins evokes is spot on, better I dare say.

While the distribution woes of this line continue to frustrate collectors, their embrace of the MOTU Origins seems dedicated. Mattel has successfully recaptured the magic of the original. Recommended! And finally, Skeletor sends Faker, atop his savage cat Panthor, to destroy He-Man so he can be Master of the Universe!
