Three Little Spiders...

I intended to review these three Marvel Universe Spider-Man action figures all in one post, but I took over 200 photos of  them, both individually and with other Spider-Man figures in my collection. In this post, I wanted to share a few of the group shots & outtakes from that photo session- Enjoy!

Marvel Universe Scarlet Spider

Truth be told, I prefer the costume Ben Reilly, genetic clone of Peter Parker, wore when he was just web slinging as '"Spider-Man", but I couldn't pass this guy up twice. I have a respectable collection of Spider-Man action figures, some of which I've not shown here, and I thought he'd make a unique addition.

Unlike the Marvel Universe House of M Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099, this figure has cut joints in his thighs. I'm fairly certain Scarlet Spider was released before Spider-Man 2099 however, and am unsure why he wouldn't get the same treatment.

Visually, I like the wrist bands & utility belt- perhaps it reminds me of the Spider-Man television show from the 70's starring Nicholas Hammond, in which Spider-Man donned a utility belt & wrist band occasionally. I don't even mind the hoodie so much, though I would have preferred it pulled up over his head (no, I'm not kidding). I find the colors choices odd, I suppose, but bright colors & baggy shirts were en vogue during the 90's, and I have pictures to prove it  :D

Am I boring you with all this Spider-Man stuff??  I'm just kiddin'- I don't really care  :D  More later!

Marvel Universe Spider-Man 2099

Like the House of M Spider-Man in my previous post, I was completely unaware of the Spider-Man 2099 story arc, involving geneticist Miguel O'Hara. Set in New York, 2099 A.D., O'Hara accidentally rewrites half his DNA in the genetic code of an arachnid in attempt to recreate the powers of the original Spider-Man in his test subjects. While his powers differ in some ways than the original Spider-Man, he becomes the Spider-Man of the future. This interests me greatly!

I spotted this guy online some time ago, before my interest in 3 3/4" figures consumed my soul blossomed. He's old news to many of you I'm sure, but I'm fascinated with him- I usually like it when they give a character a new costume, and this one looks killer! He has a webbed air foil on his back, giving the character ability to glide the long distances between the larger buildings of the future New York.

I really like the contrast of red detail & chest emblem against his midnight blue body suit, which has a subtle metallic finish, fading to black at the biceps, hands & thighs. Very menacing!

The figure comes with a web-shooter accessory that fits on the figure's arm, like the House of M Spider-Man... I love this outfit  :) I'm a little surprised Hasbro would produce a figure of a character that enjoyed publication mostly in the 90's, though I understand he was revisited a couple years ago. I will be hunting down some reading material!

While I don't own a larger version of this character to play BIG TOY/little toy, I do have a six inch version of Spidey in his black outfit- another reimaging of the character I really enjoy...

Marvel Universe Spider-Man (House of M)

There are too many cool Spider-Men in Hasbro's Marvel Universe line for me to get only one! In the next few posts we'll take an exhaustive look at Spider-Man (House of M), Spider-Man 2099, & Scarlet Spider... so try to keep up  :D  ...Let's start with my favorite, the House of M Spider-Man!

In the House of M story arc, Peter Parker is famous for being Spider-Man, a celebrity wrestler, actor & businessman. But in this alternate universe, one ruled by the mutants, the origins of Spider-Man's powers (which he was not born with) are something he keeps a secret! I haven't read this book, but I certainly plan on it!

This alternative Spider-Man costume caught my eye instantly- different and really cool! Some folks don't like when an iconic hero like Spider-Man gets a wardrobe tweak, but I don't mind so much- change is good. While some were put off by Andrew Garfield's new Spidey suit for the upcoming 2012 reboot, I loved it... can't wait to see the toys released for that!  I really like the webbed backpack accessory included with this action figure, in which can be seen parts of Parker's civilian clothes and his camera... nice touch. A web-shooter accessory that fits on the figure's arm is also included...

There is something almost imprecise about the paint and/or design of this figure that I can't put my finger on... I'm unsure if this was intended as I am unfamiliar with the artwork on this series, but it works for the figure in my opinion. Perhaps it's the consistency of it's loose styling throughout the figure that makes it work, including the somewhat splotchy appearance of the blue areas. Again- hard for me to describe, but really interesting- I don't know if it's spotty quality control or not, but I like it on this one. He's somewhat Avant-garde in appearance...

And now we'll play BIG TOY/little toy  :D   House of M Spidey with Marvel Legends 1st Appearance Spider-Man...

...And here's one more for pal Bubba- comedian, artist, toy expert, & expectant father ...Rock-a-Bye Spidey  :D

Sunday Toy Shopping

Sunday morning found me out picking up some action figures again, a FUN start to an eventful day off...

*Marvel Universe Thor & Scarlet Spider by Hasbro
I saw some others I liked, but settled on these two. I had passed that Thor by many times at my local Wal-Mart, so I took him home today! He's really cool! Then at Target I found the last Scarlet Spider- last week I saw three, so it was now or never. Not everyone's favorite, but he made me spot & look again today so I went ahead & bought him.

*Hasbro Spiderman Series Power Charge Rhino
Found him at Target with Scarlet Spider- I had passed on him last week as well, but gave in today. Too bulky & badass to pass on again...

I saw a lot of cool stuff on clearance, some of which I may go back for later. I've been passing on most all of the great deals out there only because I've found so much great Marvel Universe stuff lately. And Mike from Mike's Comics & Stuff found me a couple really cool six inch Young Justice figures he's sending. DONT' FORGET! Mike is having A Super-Duper ToyBox Special over at the Mike's Comics & Stuff website! Enter "superduper" at the check-out and get 10% off your order! Mike gives great service and has some killer stuff!  I just ordered:
*DC Universe Young Justice 6" Artemis Figure
*DC Universe Young Justice 6" Robin Figure

UP NEXT: MARVEL UNIVERSE SCARLET SPIDER, SPIDER-MAN 2099, HOUSE OF M SPIDER-MAN!

Marvel Universe Dark Hawkeye & Iron Patriot

I'm doubling up on these as they are from the same Marvel story arc: Norman Osborn's formation of H.A.M.M.E.R. and the Dark Avengers, their Secret Invasion and Dark Reign story arcs, both of which I was unfamiliar with.

Both figures came with "Top Secret" H.A.M.M.E.R. files- supposedly you could enter a code at furyfiles.com when these were released,  but the web address just takes you to Hasbro's site now.

If anyone knows what happened when you put the code in, please comment below- as usual, I was late for the dance. The woe of my life is my exceptionally poor timing & late-blooming tendencies.

This Dark Hawkeye is an excellent figure- I wasn't so interested in Dark Hawkeye as I was just having a cool Hawkeye figure, and frankly hadn't even noticed the name on the package or anything about H.A.M.M.E.R. until I more closely inspected it. A small clear rubberband held the arrow in his hand, and I just left it as opposed to crawling around on the carpet looking for the damned thing later.

There is some really great detail in the sculpt of this figure that render it one of the better Marvel Universe figures I've seen. AMAZING! Now because you know how much I love to play BIG TOY/little toy, here's MU Hawkeye with my Famous Covers Hawkeye by ToyBiz  :D

I absolutely fell in love with this Iron Patriot's color scheme, done in metallic paint, and the star shaped Uni Beam projector in his chest! Wonderful! All the incised detailing in his armor is beautiful to look at. I somehow managed to chip some of the paint on his neck (see pic)... I believe that was a manufacturing defect though, as I'm really careful with these 3 3/4" figures.

Iron Patriot is actually Norman Osborn, AKA supervillain Green Goblin. Osborn used this identity to wreak havoc during the Dark Reign story arc, ultimately undone by the mighty Iron Man. This figure comes with a funnel shaped  repulsor blast... I kinda wished they gave him a Captain America sheild like the Marvel Select version...

Here's a comparison shot with the Comic Series Iron Man 2 classic Iron Man...

Again, the Iron Man 2 figures give the Marvel Universe a run for their money: while this classic Iron Man only has a cut neck joint, his knee & articulation are superior to the Iron Patriot...

Well that was FUN! I've been having a ball with these, and there's a lot more to come- STAY TUNED!
