Kenner Dagobah Playset

I saved a little money piecing the Kenner Dagobah Playset together with some reproduction parts, all of which were new to me not having had it in 1981, the year of its release. I disassembled it to clean and replace the foam in the pit and admired the bowl and spoon sculpting detail on the stump inside. The 3-D printed branch with figure clasp and crates left a little to be desired, but were a much cheaper alternative to their vintage counterparts.

R2-D2 is already stuck in the foam!

I also bought a Stan Solo Jedi Training Luke to learn 

the ways of the force from my Retro Collection Yoda.

I fit Luke with a vintage training pack I found on eBay ...

It was fun to push the rock/lever down and lift the crates using The Force ...!

The Stan Solo Jedi Training Luke sculpt is stylized very much in the spirit of Kenner's Bespin Luke from The Empire Strikes Back. That figure from 1980 was certainly a favorite of mine- the second Luke figure from Kenner and first to come with a separate lightsaber accessory.

Still enjoying the repro telescoping lightsaber I got for my vintage Darth Vader!

Yoda and Luke can reenact their dinner scene just like they did in The Empire Strikes Back!

Kenner 2" Retro & 4.75" Action Collection Yoda

I've collected a couple of Yoda figures recently: a more recent 2" Kenner Retro Collection Yoda and a 4.75" Action Collection Yoda from '97. I really wanted a 3.75" scale Yoda like I had as a kid and lucked upon the Retro Collection Yoda at a decent price- better than I could find a clean vintage sample for. Cracking open a fresh Yoda like I had in youth was kind of a thrill in spite of some collector's misgivings about this line of re-released Star Wars figures.

I found this 4.75" Kenner Action Collection Yoda loose on eBay for a good price a few months ago while building out my 1:6 scale Star Wars lineup. I don't think the larger scale Star Wars figures form '97 and onward have the same charm as the late '70s figures Kenner produced, I thought this was a pretty faithful representation of the Jedi Master.

The Action Collection Yoda didn't come with a snake, but I found some cheap on the internet to make him feel more comfortable, like on his home planet Dagobah...

I picked up this larger Yoda to compliment some of my earlier '78-'79 Kenner 12" Star Wars figures, like Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Kenner Star Wars figures Kenner produced didn't have quite the detailed paint that the '97 Yoda has, but his scale is perfect and he's an overall good fit with them.

BootLego Star Wars Leia. Astromech Droid, C-3PO, X-Mas Yoda

I really enjoy the variety of unusual BootLego minifigs available on eBay lately, all kinds of variant colors and deco making my own Star Wars universe uniquely fun. I have some mainstream characters in classic presentation, but like any other kid, the eclectic assortment of toys in my collection reflect my own interests and finds.

It was hard to believe Carrie Fisher passed away last December, so I definitely wanted to pay tribute with a classic Princess Leia minifig. The actress was made an icon of film upon her 1977 debut in George Lucas' Star Wars, reprising her starring role for a fourth time in 2015 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

I felt the black Astromech droid needed an equally unique partner, found in the red C-3PO droid pictured with below. I could have as easily ordered a conventional R2-D2, but loved the Astromech's clear dome- what a great pair!

And finally, even though we're past the season, Christmas Yoda. There were several other characters, Star Wars and otherwise, dressed in holiday deco! How fun! This little Yoda was my favorite- there was something funny about his elven stature dressed in a Santa suit...
