McFarlane Batmen Dump

As promised in my last post, another dump on McFarlane figures, this one all Batman related. I've been amassing this stack of figures for quite some time now, so I'm sure there's a lot of these you are familiar with.

1st Appearance Batman
This is the first of these I bought with the wired cloth cape, a feature I've sincerely been enjoying. He's on a nice, big buck that appears to share a lot of parts with the McFarlane Hush Batman (also in this post). Traditionally, 1st Appearance Batman would have a more slender build, but McFarlane went muscular here. He comes with a wrench accessory I don't care about, and decent assortment of hands, even if the palmed pair look a little "Mickey Mouse". Would love to have had a grapple with rope instead. Gripes aside, I like this figure a lot- great cape!

Below, Batman battles Penguin ...!

Let's step back a moment before McFarlane introduced the wired capes and check out two figures McFarlane/Batman fans went nuts over, Hush and Knightfall Batman...

Knightfall Batman
I never read the Knightfall saga, but we were given a classic, blue and gray, Bronze-Age, Jim Aparo Batman here, in my assessment- one everyone wanted for years. I think of cover artist Kelley Jones when I think of Knightfall, but I can't complain about getting this instead...

Knightfall Batman came with an extra set of gripping hands and a batarang to battle the likes of the Riddler! Again, a grapple with rope would have been a welcome accessory ...

Hush Batman
Both Hush and Knightfall Batman came in black and blue variants I would love to have had, but I do like this modern Batman in black and gray. He's got a large buck, looming over a lot of other McFarlane figures, which I like about him. Two batarangs were included, and a smaller set of fists that don't match the figure, nor his gripping hands in size or sculpt.

McFarlane Kingdom Come Armored Batman
I've had this figure on ice for a while now and was glad to extract him from the box and pop those wings on. His articulation is limited, but he looks cool. The metallic jet pack, possibly his most attractive feature, is sadly obscured on his back. I wish his belt was the same metallic finish, but it's composed of a more rubbery material.

1989 Batman
This is McFarlane's third release of the 1989 Batman, the first single carded. I should have picked up the Amazon Exclusive Batmobile that included a variant of this figure, but you can't have everything. This one has the special cape, which can be cumbersome to deal with when hanging relaxed but looks cool extended.

'89 Batman also included a grapple gun, batarang, and communicator, with all the hands necessary to hold each. A packed box! I was a teenager when this movie dropped, so he's a special figure to me- I'm really happy with him!

Batman Reborn Dick Grayson Batman
I enjoyed the Batman: Reborn book and was fascinated with the idea of Dick Grayson donning the cowl. This more slender buck looks appropriate, and he has decent articulation, particularly in the shoulders. I regret passing on the blue variant I saw before buying this black and gray version, but I do like the figure a lot- McFarlane captured his look.

Batman Reborn Damien Wayne Robin
McFarlane also captured the look of Damian Wayne in this Robin figure- love the wired cape and hood! More hands/accessories would have been nice, but we got a comic book instead. Releasing this figure under the old DC Direct imprint makes no sense, but neither does McFarlane's "Digital" line of figures that include a virtual NFT. Regardless, I love this figure...

Silver-Age Batman
I love everything about this figure; he looks like he walked right out of the comics! The cape alone is magnificent! I'm also a fan of the black/shadowed cowl and trunks- I think I found my favorite 7" Batman figure. He also came with an Ace the Bat-Hound- no articulation, but a great sculpt and really fun pack-in.

This Batman pairs great with the Classic Joker and Earth 2 Robin from my last post...

This McFarlane Batman reminds me a lot of the Mattel Silver-Age Batman I got years ago...

NECA Toys Ben Cooper Batman Costumed Figure
Sure, this isn't a McFarlane Batman, but I thought he fit right in with the rest and is certainly of my era, being a '70s kid and all. I have a couple other NECA Ben Cooper figures and could not resist picking up a Batman while out hunting recently! Love the Super Friends trick-or-treat bag!

Silver-Age Batman is the vigilante this kid with the Ben Cooper costume would happen upon on Halloween night! He might get a batarang instead of a Zagnut bar ...!

Below, all my new Batman figures with other McFarlane figures in my collection, Top Row: Batgirl, the first McFarlane Batman, and Night Wing, Dark Knight Returns Batman. Middle Row: Red Robin, and Future State Batman. Bottom Row: Hellbat and Flashpoint Batman.

McFarlane DC Dump

I have quite a few McFarlane DC Multiverse/DC Direct figures I need to bust out, so I thought I'd dump seven of them right here. I buy a lot of mine at Nerdzoic because I like supporting a small family business with great service.

I've loved this Earth 2 Robin design since seeing it years ago; he teamed up with Huntress in a trade paperback I read, Dark Knight Daughter. He comes with an alternate head that looks like Green Lantern's domino mask, but I prefer the full head mask. I am really enjoying the wired cloth capes McFarlane moved to.

I was really excited to see this Huntress solicited; she's the modern version but makes a great partner with my Earth 2 Robin. The interchangeable face plates were a great idea, but I feel a different expression might have added some variety- these are all somewhat neutral. The base helps a great deal keeping the figure upright with her impossibly tiny, heeled feet.

I was slowly piecing this trio of villains together for the last year or so; I was glad to see some classic versions of Gotham City's rouges' gallery. I eagerly await the Two-Face I preordered!

McFarlane packed a lot of extra hands in with Riddler, doesn't get much more classic than this.

McFarlane Riddler with my modern Mego Riddler...

This was the McFarlane Joker I was waiting for; it looks like it walked right out of the comics of my youth. Bronze-Age. Included are several extra hands, including holding cards and the laughing fish.

I picked up this Super Powers variant of the McFarlane Collector's Edition Penguin at a discount from an online seller because it's damaged box, but I wanted to open him anyway. His card was damaged, but I don't really take any special care of those anyway.

I will say, I liked the parasol that came with my DC Universe Classics Penguin better...

McFarlane included many sets of extra hands, a radio communicator, and batarang with this Adam West/Classic TV/'66 Batman. Love it! It would have been interesting to see an entire wave or two of '66 Batman figures, but McFarlane was already filling that space with the 6" Classic TV line.

I'm still waiting on my McFarlane '89 Batman, but these two were a big part of my early childhood. I was six when Superman movie dropped, and '66 Batman was in heavy syndication throughout the entirety of my youth, so I was excited to see them.

This figure came with two portraits that bear few obvious differences, though I prefer the version with the tighter spit curl. Chris Reeve is my Superman, so I was really happy to get this figure. Beautiful cape!

This was a fun group of McFarlane DC figures to bust out, I have several more Batman figures I need to post on. While I've had my gripes about McFarlane figures, including their pinchy joints, ball-jointed wrists and ankles, and inconsistent scale, I was surprised to hear they lost the license back to Mattel! I thought of it as a successful line and I'm sure I'll pick up a few more on the way out this next year.
