Marvel Legends 85th Anniversary Hulkbuster

Man, are we getting a lot of plus-sized Marvel Legends figures coming in! I got ten bucks off this big buy recently, which certainly helped me to pull the trigger. This Hulkbuster is about 9.25" tall and 2.350 lbs. -it feels substantial. The outer chest armor can be removed, and the helmet exchanged for a Tony Stark head. His joints are pretty tight, and while his girth limits his articulation to the expected degree, he can do quite a bit for such a bulky figure.

But what we came for here today was a rumble with
my Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Hulk ...

Below, Hulkbuster with my Marvel Legends Invincible Iron Man, which also came with an alternate Tony Stark head. This Hulkbuster looks a lot like what is referred to as part of the Model 13 Modular Iron Man suit with a style/details update to the overall aesthetic, but has also been directly referred to as its own Model 14 armor.

And now for some more comparisons:
with my Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Hulk and Spider-Man Retro Card Series Rhino...

...with my Marvel Legends Ulik and Thing...

...with my Marvel Legends Venompool and Mister Hyde...

...can you imagine Mark 1 Iron Man bumping into Hulkbuster at the arcade ...?

And finally, Hulkbuster with my Marvel Legends Iron Man 3 Wave BAF Iron Monger, absolutely dwarfed by the former. The Marvel Legends has come a long way since it's relaunch in 2012- the figures are better than ever and there are more of them- well over 1,300 and counting. The character lineup is astounding, and they are bordering on import-level quality, with more accessories and extra hands/heads. I've written 158 posts about them here on the Super-DuperToybox in the last 14 years, and this won't likely be my last! Excelsior!

Disney Marvel Toybox Hulkbuster & Hulk Battle Set

This Disney Marvel Toybox set was intended for younger children, but collectors have been picking it up for the somewhat impressive Hulkbuster included. Rivaling the larger Marvel Legends Hulkbuster in visual appeal and articulation, the addition of lights and sounds just icing on the cake with this Toybox version. I'd never pay full retail for it, but at 25% off, I'm in. Check out the video:

Another thing this Toybox Hulkbuster has that the Marvel Legends does not have is a Tony Stark head under the helmet. There's even toe joints, and joints in the three fingers! My only gripe with this Hulkbuster is the loose joints, especially the left elbow- I've heard similar reports from the community regarding this and other larger Toybox figures like Baymax and Maui. I'm particularly enamored by the Hulk in the set- collectors who already had single carded Hulk w/purple pants may be less enthusiastic, but the roaring expression on this one is an improvement in my opinion. A single carded grey Toybox Hulk is now available as well. A fun set, but buy it on sale!

Jada Avengers AOU 6" Hulkbuster

This Jada Avengers AOU 6" Hulkbuster was an impulse buy, fueled by an ongoing interest in more unusual character variants, imported vinyl, and/or "arty" pieces. Heavily stylized and more statue than action figure, the Hulkbuster will make a stunning display with some vinyl Marvel Funkos I have. The metallic paint is gorgeous, and of course the matching 2" Iron Man that rides in Hulkbuster's cockpit make this toy a must have- check out the video:

Also seen in the video above, a 1.75" Jada Nano Metalfigs Hulkbuster I picked up a week ago. I was pleased with the other Nano Metalfigs I'd picked up this summer, and thought he'd display well with my Guardians of the Galaxy Gamora and Star-Lord. It now appears that I have a fledgling group of diecast Iron Man/Hulkbuster- may have to pick up the 4" Jada Iron Man ...

Spider-Man Series Power Charge Rhino

Jason asked for a look at this a week ago, before I did all the posts on Marvel Universe Spider-Men. I've been generally underwhelmed at the severely overstocked supplies of  Spider-Man Series action figures by Hasbro crowding the toy aisles, with the exception of the Power Charge Rhino.  I passed on two of these at another area Target three weeks ago, though I've come to believe he's somewhat difficult to come by.

His heft is what attracted me- if I can get one of the larger characters within any 3 3/4" line, I will- makes me feel as though I'm (laughs) getting a better value  :D  Upon opening this figure, I reallized that some portions of the armor are removeable, secured in place by clear rubberbands within the packaging. When I removed all the rubberbands, the extra knee, forearm, and spike shoulder armor had a tendency to fall off. While this design flaw is annoying, Rhino looks fine without it...

I really liked the texture and distressed paint applications on Rhinos hooves-he has a great sculpt! It's too bad about the skin tone on his face, otherwise he'd be exceptional. But hey- he's an eight dollar action figure for some kid to throw around in the sandbox! He has some decent/functional articulation- while Rhino's legs are limited to a swivel-hinge joint at the hips, he does sport elbow joints, swiveling biceps, and swivel-hinge joints at the shoulders. Additionally, Rhino's head has a swivel-hinge joint, making him quite expressive.

The package included a trio of "battle cards" enabling the collector to measure up powers against other characters/figures in the series. This didn't interest me, but your eight year old can take his pals to task when challenged about exactly who can kick Rhino's ass.

From Wikipedia:
Aleksei Sytsevich was a nameless thug for hire working for an Eastern Bloc country. He volunteered to participate in an experiment that bonded a super strong polymer to his skin, thus augmenting his strength and speed, resulting in the Rhino alias. The Rhino returned in Hulk, vol. 2, #104 (June 1968) and although he died at the end of the story, the character proved popular enough to be revived, becoming a perennial opponent for both Spider-Man and the Hulk.

Let's see how Rhino fares against the  Iron Man 2 Hulkbuster...!!

Mmm Mmm Mmmm... that looked pretty rough!

Iron Man 2 HulkBuster, Titanium Man, & Iron Man

From the "Comic Series" of the Iron Man 2 action figures, HulkBuster Iron Man, Titanium Man, & Iron Man only cost me four bucks each as the local K-Marts try to shed this over-merchandised franchise. And at the prices I've been getting these for, I'm glad to help out  :D

These figures come with the same 3-part armor cards like the others in the series, which fit in the slotted tray on their bases, detailing different portions of the character's armor...

Like Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man hails from the Soviet Union, subjected to experiments by the KGB to increase his size & strength. Boris Bullski was still no match for the technology & wits of Tony Stark, Iron Man! Originally appearing in Tales of Suspense  in 1963, Titanium Man was described as a giant of sorts- a detail not exactly reflected in this action figure. Though I knew nothing of the character,  his green & silver armor instantly caught my eye digging through the clearance bin. I really dig his waffle-stomper boots, which have much-welcomed articulation in the ankles. this is a great figure!

While picking up Titanium Man, I decided to get a classic Iron Man, too- I've seen several of the Marvel Universe classic Iron Man on the pegs recently, and they look about the same. In some cases, I've found the Iron Man 2 figures have better articulation in the knees, and am curious as to why Hasbro would want to release yet another Iron Man figure in such a saturated retail environment. I was thrilled to see this Iron Man included a "blast-off" figure stand, though it is to small for the figure's footprint, leaving one leg hanging off- this is bad for balance, and is misrepresented entirely on the card back of the packaging! Still, I managed to get a shot off...

The standout of this group though is, of course,  the Hulkbuster Iron Man! I love a chunky action figure, and was surprised by his articulation- relatively flexible for such a thick figure. Head, torso, wrist, & ankle movement, in addition to standard shoulder, hip, elbow, & knee articulation gave him a lot of personality. I've only seen this one in all my recent outings...

But can he really bust The Hulk...??

Hulkbuster indeed!! Looks like the Green Goliath lost this round, Friends...  :D  See more pictures of this Marvel Legends Hulk on his original post- one of my favorite toys!

Have a Great Weekend! Make it FUN!
