MOTU Origins Skeletor & Screeech Collectors Edt. 2pk

I actually had the Zoar bird in 1983, but never the original Screech. A big part of the appeal of this set to me was the Skeletor with variant colors, his red highlights inspired by the 1983 packaging for Screeech. His purples are lighter and more red as well and he includes a Havoc Staff and full Power Sword.  A fantastic variant for my collection!

The very same wing flapping action feature Screeech
employed in 1983 is used in this MOTU Origins reissue:

I am a big fan of Skeletor, Evil Lord of Destruction! A legendary villain of the '80s, right up there with Shredder, Cobra Commander, Megatron, Mumm-Ra, Skeletor may very well be the best of all these. Below, this new Skeletor with MOTU Origins Wave 1 Skeletor (on Panthor), Terror Claws SkeletorBattle Armor Skeletor, and Rise of Evil 2-pk Skeletor...

I'm still slowly buying some of the new MOTU Origins coming out, but not all of them- I've collected this line well beyond what I had as a child, and it's probably still my favorite line running the last 3 years or so. I'm really happy with this set and am tempted to buy the Zoar/Teela 2pk. Check out the online Battle Ram Blog to reminisce about the original Masters of the Universe line!

Hasbro Silver Age Collection 9in. Green Arrow (1999)

I've had a few Hasbro 9" figures in my collection since starting this blog in 2010, so when I was presented with the chance to scoop up this Green Arrow for south of fourteen bucks, I bit. Figures of this scale that were produced in this era with soft goods outfits were certainly appealing to the now older Mego generation. I like the chunky, toyetic feel of these kinds of action figures, which actually had a little better articulation than the original 8" Mego figures. Hasbro gave most of their 9" figures hinged gripping hands, helping Green Arrow actually draw his bow.

Green Arrow came with the rather large base, which is cool with the DC logo but takes up a lot of space. The other 9" Hasbro figures I have didn't include a base- this accessory seems only to have been included with the DC Silver Age Collection figures.

My only other DC character that Hasbro produced in this scale is this Martian Manhunter...

I also have a few Marvel figures Hasbro produced in this style and scale:

And finally, 9" Hasbro Green Arrow with my 8" Figures Toy Co. Green Arrow, which is really just a replica of the original Mego Green Arrow. Mego, resurrected in 2018, will actually release this 8" Green Arrow again this year!

This Green Arrow is unique among the others in my collection because of his scale, and one of maybe only a couple examples of the character with red boots and gloves- most of the rest of my Green Arrow figures are monochromatic. There weren't a lot of characters produced by Hasbro in this scale, but I have enjoyed the few I've had and am always on the lookout for more if the price is right.

Marvel Legends Star-Lord (Classic 2023 Walmart Exclusive)

I got into Guardians of the Galaxy much later than it's classic iteration, first reading the Lanning/Abnett run out of the Annihilation: Conquest event from 2008. So I have little connection with this new Marvel Legends Star-Lord based on his classic1976 appearance in Marvel Preview #4. Luckily, I keep a subscription to Marvel Unlimited. Steve Gan's art in this Steve Engelhart story in exceptional!

I'm mildly disappointed by the painted-on boot tops, but this figure is on a nice, modern buck- pin-less and with butterfly joints at the shoulders. This figure has vertically hinged wrists to better wield his weapons and deep elbow articulation. I love the head sculpt on this figure- nearly worth the price of admission! At the $26.50 retail price for this Walmart exclusive, we deserved a little more though ...

I was sure I'd seen Star-Lord's cutlass before, and realized that both
my Pirate Deadpool and Nightcrawler came with the same sword ...

McFarlane DC Multiverse Dump

In an effort to save time and consolidate some posts, I'm cracking open six McFarlane DC Multiverse figures I've had on ice- there are two or three more on preorder, but this will help rid me of space-consuming packaging. I'm largely unfamiliar with Kon-El Superboy, but always liked his punk outfit with the leather jacket. Sadly, no extra hands with Kon-El, nor flight stand, but I really like the figure!

Below, Kon-El with McFarlane DC Multiverse Superboy Prime and Jon Kent Superman...

Along with Kon-El, I was most excited to get this Jay Garrick Flash from McFarlane Toys- he has bright colors and a sort of Golden-Age facial treatment- his deco really reminds me of that era of comics. We get two pair of hands with Jay, and speed force effects accessories...

Above, McFarlane DC Multiverse Jay Garrick Flash with DC Collectibles New 52 Jay Garrick Flash, who actually has a broken left hip joint as that particular era of DC Collectibles suffered from such QC issues. Below, Jay with my DC Multiverse Injustice Flash, Wally West Flash, and CW Flash ...

My DC Multiverse Gold Label Shazam also has a kind of
Golden -Age look to it, though his sculpt is more modern in it's detail ...

Most of my experience with Green Lantern Kyle Rayner is from the New 52 Green Lantern: New Guardians, over 10 years ago when I was reading a lot of Green Lantern. I found this Gold Label variant right after buying the Atrocitus BAF Wave Kyle Rayner. This version didn't include a lantern, but a katana and samurai armor- it also has a strait-face/closed mouth and different boots and gauntlets.

Below, Gold Label Kyle Raner GL with my Atrocitus BAF Wave Kyle Rayner GL...

This Endless Winter Aquaman is just a good ol' standard Aquaman to my eyes, which is why I bought him! Not crazy about the eyes gazing left and we get no extra hands, but he grips that trident tightly...

Below, Endless Winter Aquaman with my DC Collectibles New 52 Aquaman...

I've seen neither the Justice League move nor the Aquaman movie, but the sculpt/deco on this Jason Momoa Aquaman is fantastic! He's taller than my DC Multiverse comic-based figures...

Above, Justice League Aquaman with McFarlane DC Multiverse Hawkman from the Black Adam movie line, perhaps my only other McFarlane DCEU/movie figure. Below, Justice League Aquaman next to my McFarlane Endless Winter Aquaman, who is notable shorter in spite of the way the photo appears...

I got this Gold Label Ocean Master pretty easily of Target's website a couple months ago- a character I've had limited exposure to, but provided another villain to my McFarlane Toys collection... dark and menacing!

I knew this Ocean Master would pair well with the Endless Winter Aquaman...

I have a sort of love/hate relationship with McFarlane DC Multiverse figures: they don't pose as well, nor do their joints possess the fluidity of Marvel Legends, nor Mattel's DC Universe Classics probably. The joints are also finger-pinchers and some of the gripping hands are so stiff that it's hard to get their weapons/accessories into! That said, I like the sculpting/deco on many of these and enjoy this particular group.
