MOTU Masterverse Revolution Battle Armor He-Man, Sorceress Teela, Gwildor/Orko 2pk, New Eternia Tri-Klops

I'm going to keep things rolling here with more MOTU Masterverse, these all preordered off BBTS in January of this year, arriving here back in April. I may have been most excited about this Revolution Battle Armor He-Man that also came with the standard He-Man chest harness- Fantastic!

I already had a New Eternia Battle Armor He-Man that I loved- he came with more accessories, including a Sword of Power, but I favor the Revolution version side-by-side. Both came with interchangeable armor plates to show battle damage, and I prefer the darker tone of the Revolution He-Man and his flashier battle axe...

I enjoyed this year's Masters of the Universe: Revolution on Netflix well enough, though I came to the party with less skin in the game- I was less attached to the original Filmation cartoon. My childhood experience of that mythology came from the mini comics included with the initial 1982 product launch, portraying the characters in a more mysterious and grittier world. By the time the Filmation show arrived in September of 1983, its squeaky-clean presentation didn't interest me. Regardless, I was more interested in this Revolution Sorceress Teela as a compliment to my Revelation Teela and Sorceress figures.

Gwildor is the dwarf-like Thenurian who invented the Cosmic Key in the 1987 Masters of the Universe live action film, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. The fan favorite was carried over into the animated series, and while I've collected none of the Masterverse movie figures, I'm plenty happy with Gwildor. Along with the Cosmic Key, he carries his jeweled magic staff and a Sword of Power. He won't strike any Spider-Man poses, but he does have a fair amount of articulation, including a swivel on those ears.

This deluxe Masterverse Revolution Series Orko includes a serious base with moving parts and a snap-on cape extension, all of which makes for a somewhat large footprint for such a diminutive character. You can unclip the magic orbital rings though if you want to consolidate his shelf space.

This Masterverse New Eternia Tri-Klops figure feels deluxe with accessories a little more exciting than Battle Armor He-Man's, including an optional bejeweled sash with sword and alternate rotating eye band. I never had Tri-Klops as a kid in the '80s, but this figure rocks- his paint deco and accessories are fantastic!

Another pretty nice batch of Masterverse figures, Gwildor possibly being my favorite, followed closely by Battle Armor He-Man or Tri-Klops. So great! More Masterverse to come here on the Super-DuperToyBox, stay tuned!

He-Man & the Masters of the Universe Power Attack Orko

While I've had little interest in the He-Man & the Masters of the Universe line running parallel with MOTU Origins, the Power Attack Orko reminded me of the robot in The Black Hole, V.I.N.CENT. I've seen very little of the new animated showed from which this is based, but have seen the Masters of the Universe: Revelation animated show, also on Netflix. Oddly, I don't collect the Revelation figures, due mainly to space and budget. But this Orko is roughly the same size as my Origins Orko, and I liked that this Orko is a robot.

His propulsion blast base rolls around on a steel ball bearing underneath, but he is sorely lacking in articulation. And the "power attack" spring doesn't have a very big wind-up range, but will throw his energy blast off his arm effectively if you are positioned carefully. Although the figure can do very little, the character design update is fantastic. See my video below for an action feature demonstration...

Below, Power Attack Orko with my MOTU Origins Orko. I've still not seen one of these Power Attack Orkos in the wild, nor did I see more than perhaps a couple Origins Orkos at retail. I'm unsure if this is because he is a fan favorite and gets snatched up quick, or just luck. I was ultimately disappointed by the lack of articulation, thought he will display nicely.

MOTU Origins Scare Glow, Trap Jaw, Orko

Three more of the MOTU Origins figures I received awhile back from my BBTS preorder were Scare Glow, Trap Jaw, and Orko, from the notoriously "missing" second wave that also included Man-E-Faces. All these characters are present in the included mini comic, "Double Trouble", detailing Skeletor's ruse to steal the Cordite Crystal from Castle Grayskull's cache of magic artifacts, disguised as Orko!

Like most collectors, I was excited to finally receive Scare Glow, the originally 1987 version released long after I'd moved on from Masters of the Universe, into adolescence. Regardless of the debate surrounding this character being the actual ghost of Skeletor, or a spirit conjured to terrorize the inhabitants of Eternia, I'm mad for everything about this figure, including the fabric-textured cape and signature glow-in-the-dark feature. Awesome!

Below, Scare Glow with my MOTU Origins Alfredo Alcala Skeletor from the Rise of Evil 2-pack. It took some time and patience to have these figures, due to Mattel's distribution woes, but I love the design of these two characters.

Another MOTU figure I did not have as a kid in the '80s was Trap Jaw, released in 1983, featuring interchangeable arm weapons, and an articulated jaw. Like all the MOTU Origins figures, Mattel recaptured this colorful evil warrior, faithful henchman of Skeletor!

Below, Trap Jaw with my MOTU Origins Rise of Evil 2-pack Kronis- his retconned alter-ego before being disfigured in an attempt to overpower Skeletor. I found Kronis to be initially underwhelming, but far more interesting beside this new Trap Jaw...

MI was just beyond my interest in MOTU when the premiere for Filmation's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe dropped in September of '83, but my appreciation of the character has warmed with age. Like Scare Glow and Trap Jaw, I did not have the original Mattel figure, which featured a rip cord to send the wheeled figure spinning. I prefer this updated figure with his articulated, floating base...

Below, Prince Adam introduces Orko to the Sorceress in Castle Grayskull's throne room... a little known fact: Orko was first conceptualized as "Gorpo", later changed by Filmation to Orko, the O on his chest enabling animators to flip the cells, saving time and money.

These are three great additions to my MOTU Origins collection! Be sure to check out the Battle Ram Blog to see more about Mattel's original Masters of the Universe line from the '80s!
