DCUC Catwoman

Prior to what we know as the elusive and coveted DC Classic Universe line by Mattel, a very similar design of 6" action figures were being released as the DC Superheroes line. Among those was a Catwoman much like this, painted all black with a backpack & cat statue (2007). I felt okay about scoring this one loose on E-Bay for $11.55 (shipping included), largely due to having witnessed the black version incite an outright bidding war.

This purple variant was released in a Wal-Mart exclusive Gotham City 5-pack in 2009, which included Batamn, Superman, Lex Luthor, and Two-Face- you can get this set for anywhere from $65.00 to $100.00 currently from a variety of online sellers.

I must say she was FUN to photograph with her (laughs) rubber whip, and was relatively easy to pose, due in part to her wide boots- She stands a little easier than the DCUC Cheetah I just got... kinda cute, isn't she?

Better watch out, Batman! This saucy minx looks like she might scratch...! Catwoman is, of course, Selina Kyle, the DC super villain that seems to enjoy getting under Batman's cowl. Their romance is one of The Dark Knight's longest running, first appearing in Batman #1 (1940).

Toy Organization

As fledgling as this toy collecting endeavor is, my constant accumulation of toys meant that I had to reorganize again. Too large to contain within my glass display case, I had to face the fact that this collection grown way past the initial fascination into a full-time obsession  hobby. Observing some of my fellow bloggers go through this seemed almost absurd a few months ago, though I had been thoroughly warned of this coming day. I still keep toys displayed in the living room area of the small 2 bedroom apartment I share with a pal, but have now managed to contain most of it in my bedroom & walk-in closet. A New Year's resolution that actually came to fruition!

I got these fun & colorful plastic storage drawers on clearance at Big Lots & Wal-Wart within the last couple weeks- today I finally threw a bunch of old junk that had accumulated in my closet out, and moved these babies in place...

Cleared out the shelves above as well, that now provide storage for some of the boxes that my more deluxe dollys action figures came in...

I configured some old wine crates my roomo found into a temporary shelving unit to hold comics and a bunch of unopened DCUCs a couple weeks ago. In the other corner of my room the computer is situated, creating the perfect headquarters for the Super-DuperToyBox...

A closer peek into the glass display case...

As I said, the glass toycase is full of dollys deluxe action figures right now, but I may just rotate the collection in and out of the case periodically- the reclaimed space and plastic storage drawers in the walk-in are close at hand, yet contained out of sight and out of the way. Perhaps at some point in the future I can get another glass display case if I ever get a bigger place.

OH YEAH... almost forget to mention- I got a small parcel of comic books today, just in time as I had read all I had...
Robin: Year One, #1-4 (DC Comics, 2000) This looked like a lot of fun, and purchasing the four separate books used, as opposed to the compiled graphic novel, was cheaper as it turns out...

As with a lot of comic sellers on E-Bay, there was only one flat shipping rate of $3.95 for as much as you want to order, so I picked up The Spectre, Annual #1 (DC Comics, 1988)... it's a team-up with Deadman!

Well, I feel like I accomplished a lot on my day off, and I've got reading to do before bedtime, but before I go I want to share some online goodness I found this week:
*New Readers...Start Here blog! Very interesting to me as I had been away from comics all my adult life until recently and have missed a lot.
*A great post, "Should I Open The Toy", at OpenTheToy blog- I really liked this!
*My fellow blogger BubbaShelby's interview on Random Acts of Geekery! I told Bubba it's good that we aren't neighbors, as we'd never get anything done! His Toyriffic blog is a regular stop for me, and Bubba was one of the first to step up and make friends when I got started here. A swell pal, for sure! I had been watching his blog for some time before I decided to start Super-DuperToyBox.
*Hilarious video blog featuring odd Darth Vader swag by Reis O'Brien on Hey, Look At My Toys! I look forward to watching these every week, and get a kick out of Reis' masked, off-the-cuff delivery. Watching him get cracked up at the absurdity of some of the toys makes me laugh  :D
*And last, but not least, I submitted Super-DuperToyBox to Blogged.Com and was accepted with a rating  of  6.0/"Good". I have been working on this blog for three months and my traffic has increased a lot lately, getting anywhere from 60 to 100 hits a day. I'm unsure if being accepted on Blogged.Com is a real accomplishment, but I figure the extra exposure can't hurt- I'm always looking to make new friends with similar interests. All in all, things are moving right along I'd say.

Hey, Mr. Postman! DCUC Wave 13 Cheetah (Variant)

Seems like a day doesn't pass around here without a DC Classic strollin' through the door... hobby or hoarding, hard to tell! They are hard to pass up on E-Bay for five to six bucks less that you pay retail, and as I said before, I pretty much missed the first 15 waves. Whaddaya gonna do?

Cheetah was released in October of 2010, along with that Jamie Reis Blue Beetle I showed you. This is the variant, the other being the classic DC styled Cheetah.

I was skeptical of the DCUC females due to their extremely thin, frail looking physique, and had passed on them until recently. In fact I'd passed up the classic DCUC Cheetah more than once, but had the opportunity to pick up this variant loose for just under ten bucks on E-Bay. I'm glad I didn't pay retail, because her hip and neck articulation leave a lot to be desired, BUT... she has the most dainty, cute, little hands... and wild-ass, rocker-chick hair! Though I still haven't opened the HawkGirl, Donna Troy, or Black Canary I've recently purchased, and I'm currently eyeing an adorable Mary Batson (Marvel Girl). I've grown soft on these poor waifs... what can I say? (laughs) I'm a sensitive dude  :D

Let's peek in on a photo session with Cheetah and a couple of her male DCUC counterparts, both with different buck:

"...Oh these DCUC shoots...is a superhero's work ever done...?

"OK people: Look Epic!"

"Oh no, SinBats! You are ummm, walking right into the frame..."

"Hal what... what's going on here....I...Huh?"
"We're... (sigh), were in the middle of a shoot, SinBats... (sigh)...

"Oh... WELL, I can SEE that, I..."

"...I guess I'll just be, um... I just be leaving then. I can see I'm in the way, hmph...!

"Well GREAT, now he's mad...

"Why he insists on showing up when he's not needed... and then his feelings get hurt... Oh the upcoming group shots are gonna be FUN, lotsa FUN!"

"I dunno Sugar, I was havin' an okay time... howsa 'bout you?"
"Purrrrrrrrrrr...Mmmmm..."
"Heh, Heh... yeah, kitty cat...."

"(mumbles)... just would like for someone to tell me, just for once, what..."

"...what... are you still here...? What in the... Don't you have someplace to be?"

"... no place to be, just here... taking pictures of me... making a fool of myself, great... that's great...(mumbles)..."

Ooops! Make that three different male body sculpts from the DCUC line... yeah, Sinestro Batman is really a (laughs) standout, even in this crowd! Oh well... I hope you enjoyed it!

Hey, Mr. Postman! DCUC Green Lantern!

So much for the parade of action figures walking through my door slowing down in 2011 (laughs)! Well, at least I'm buying them for cheap second-hand on E-Bay... today it was my DC Universe Classics Green Lantern!

This particular Hal Jordan Green Lantern was pulled from a five pack of DCUC Green Lantern Corps figures, including John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Sinestro, and Tomar Re that is selling at Wal-Mart right now. I wasn't particularly interested in the rest of of the GLC included in this set, only the Green Lantern of my childhood. There were two other Hal Jordan figures released by Mattel in the DCUC line VERY similar to this one, the distinguishing feature here being the gray sideburns and deeper green shade in his lantern, both of which I prefer.

There are a lot of sellers on E-Bay trying to get rid of this extra Hal Jordan from the five-pack, which was good news for me as getting one of the other two can be an expensive option- some sellers are asking as much as fifty to sixty bucks! I got him for $12.68 (shipping included) when the auction ended, and I'm glad I got this one- the boys at OAFE.Net had a list of production and distribution issues with the original series 3 Hal. It seems they didn't (laughs) like Hal at all! The second All-Star Hal Jordan Green Lantern, that featured a cool metallic paint job, got a warmer reception over at ActionFigurePics.Com. You can also get an Abin Sur/Green Lantern two-figure pack at Toys 'R Us right now, as well as a host of other waves of DCUC Green Lantern action figures, and DC Direct waves on the way... AND the upcoming motion picture! Green Lantern is hot property right now!

I already had a Hal Jordan by DC Direct (which I love), the New Frontier boxed set version- let's take a look side by side...

They're both a lot of FUN, and I can't say I like one better than the other... I'd say they made friends rather quickly, wouldn't you? The DC Direct New Frontier Hal is beefier, and has less points of articulation, but I love his retro styling!

"In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's light!"

*DC Direct First Appearance Alan Scott Green Lantern I got awhile back- he has a cloth cape!

DCUC Wave 15 Sinestro Batman!

I have to admit that this particular DC Universe Classic action figure took some time to grow on me. When I was younger, I thought all those Batman action figures they made with the crazy outfits were preposterous- I had high esteem for the Dark Knight Detective, and dressing him in anything too far removed from his classic uniform was a perversion. This toy received a lot of criticism from collectors of this line by Mattel, as he has never actually appeared in a comic book. Though I bought him loose, I found through DCClassics.Com that Mattel threw a monkey wrench in our attempt to understand by stamping a Sinestro Corps sign over the top of his bio on his backing card!

It seemed to happen suddenly... I became obsessed with finding one of these, whereas before I was nonplussed. I think the color scheme of the Sinestro Corps uniform appealed to me, and preordered a DC Direct Sinestro Corps Arkillo a few days after winning SinBats on E-Bay, as I will never likely collect all the figures from the DCUC Wave 15 necessary to assemble their Arkillo build-a-figure. Some didn't like the clenched teeth on SinBats, but I DID like it- he looks evil and pissed off!

I was glad to get a button from the E-Bay seller, for which I was doubly grateful! COOL! I love these like a kid loves a Cracker Jack prize!

Sinestro Corps Batman comes with a yellow construct Batarang, which seems to hold on okay, but doesn't really snap into place as it seems it should... it's appropriate though.

I've said before that it seems like the more outrageous looking the outfit is, the more I like the action figure, and SinBats is (laughs) no exception! I got him loose for $12.06 on E-Bay (shipping included), which was totally worth it to me. I was thrilled when he showed up yesterday and had a ball taking pictures of him!

Which DCUC show up in the ToyBox next? There are (laughs) several possibilities, so stay tuned!
