Proto Bat-Bot!

The fun I experienced getting the Batmobile from the Brave & The Bold Series by Mattel was only trumped by scoring this bitchin' Proto Bat-Bot!  I was actually surprised at big this thing is- towering over the 4 3/4" action figures of this line, this colossal toy is 12" tall, 8" wide, and just a hair under 3 lbs. He's a whopper!

Proto Bat-Bot's hidden chest cannon is revealed when you twist his head clockwise, lighting up his eyes when he announces "Mega Blaster Activated" and "Great Job, Partner" in a breathy Adam West delivery (who in fact voiced the character on the TV show).  

The projectiles are rapidly ejected by manually depressing the button at the rear of the cannon. The lever atop Proto Bat-Bot's left shoulder and red button on his right shoulder blade allow the chest bay doors to lock open and the cannon inside to spin, causing a great deal of commotion and enjoyment. I was delighted, to say the least :D  

I had underestimated Proto Bat-Bot's level of articulation slightly,  finding the range of motion in his elbows and shoulders pretty good. His elbows extend from a right angle all the way out, and his swivel shoulders make a full circle. This short legs only bend slightly at the knees & hips, though this is helpful for balance when holding a figure in his flexible robot claws...

 

It looks as though Joker won't be getting away this time!

Plastic Man stops by to lend a helping hand to Batman (in his Stealth Blast Armor) in loading Proto Bat-Bot's cannon...

Eminently qualified in the field of robotics as he is an android himself, Red Tornado assists with a jam in Proto Bat-Bot's gun bay doors...

...and with the help of his fellow heroes, Batman has Proto Bat-Bot up and running again! Now that's teamwork! The Man of Steel stops in to check progress, shake hands with good friends, and bear witness to Batman's impressive creation...

I can't keep my hands off this wonderful toy- it filled me with such joy that it nearly brought a tear to my eye- I'm talking about real happiness... what I'm trying to say is that I love this toy- I love this toy like a child would. Sorry about a dozen extra large pics in one post, but you can clearly see that the play value is high in this big boy :D

The Batmobile!

My friend Alex told me I really (laughs) crossed the line buying my first vehicle, and he's right! It does seem like a big step. And what better way to do it than with this very cool Brave & The Bold Batmobile...

There are at two other Batmobiles in this line of toys (Snap & Attack Batmobile and the Ultra Armor Batmobile), but I felt good about getting this first version for under fifteen bucks (shipping included), MIB. The others have all kinds of accessories, but I appreciate the simple, good-looking design of this 2009 model. Here's Battle Axe Batman popping the hatch- of the seven Batman figures I have from the line, he's the only one in the Silver Age blue and gray outfit... and he comes with a battle axe (laughs)...

I had a black and red Mego Batmobile when I was a little kid that I really loved, and getting this brought back the memories and a lot of good feelings  :)  Like that toy, there isn't much to this vehicle- just four wheels to roll your favorite action figure around in... what else do you need? Unlike the Mego Batmobile, this car has a clear blue cockpit hatch, that snaps closed neatly. I love the exaggerated design and front grill of this Batmobile- it's as though they combined elements of the original 1930's Batmobile (which was red), the 1950's Batmobile, the 1966 TV Batmobile, and 1989 Michael Keaton Batmobile. What a FUN toy!

Hey, Mr. Postman!

It's time for another episode of Hey, Mr. PostMa'am here at The Super-DuperToyBox... yes I said PostMa'am, because in reality the postal worker who brings my toys is an Attrative, Lean Blonde with a voice so soft that Angels would dare not speak in front of her- I swear! And she brings me toys :D

*Deluxe Total Armor Twin Turbo Blue Beetle! There are other Blue Beetle figures in the Brave & The Bold toy line by Mattel, but this is the deluxe model. He shoots projectiles  :D

*Deluxe Total Armor Mechanical Claw (Metal Men)! This is clearly Iron of the Metal Men- I'm unsure why they didn't put that on the package. There is also a Gold from Metal Men is the Brave & The Bold toy line that comes with a Starro. I love the dark cobalt color and wrench attachment on this guy! FUN!

*Brave & The Bold Batmobile vehicle! I was really jazzed to get this- I feel it's a hallmark of sorts buying my first vehicle here at the Super-DuperToyBox. I love the design of this toy so much that I could not resist! There are other more decked out versions in this line, but I wanted the 2009 original version- just the car! I scored it for under $15.00, too (price included shipping)! Oh, Glorious Day! That's gonna make for some fun pictures...

Mattel DC Retro-Action Retrospctive

Just wanted to share a few pics of my 8" Mattel Retro-Action DC Superheroes I took while I was shooting Flash & Captain Cold the other night... I had them out, so I thought I'd have some FUN...

I'm 39 years old and (laughs) playing with my dollies! My mother not-so-jokingly remarks how I've reverted to my childhood lately, and while I may not be able to go back, taking these photos and yammering about how I love these toys is how I play. Playing and/or being playful is important to your mental health and happiness, which brings about vitality. I'm a fun guy, and maybe I am reverting to my childhood- I DO feel great, and people have been commenting on how young I look since I stopped drinking, lost weight, trimmed my beard/hair! I mean, would a man nearing his forties dress like this?! He would if he were me! LOL!

Retro-Action Flash & Captain Cold!

I scored a couple more of Mattel's 8" DC Retro-Action dollies action figures last week, two that I couldn't resist: Flash and Captain Cold! The colorful outfits on these two make for a great hero/villain combo! I bought six of these when I started this blog six months ago, and seeing these on the pegs at Toys 'R Us was too much to resist. Like many of us of a certain vintage, my love for these goes back to my childhood Mego World's Greatest Superhero dolls, now lost to time and rigorous play.

Unlike the original Megos, these Mattels have an assortment of differently styled boots across the line, Flash sporting his own winged variety with saw-tooth tread. Very Cool! It seems as though Mattel has largely solved the pelvic issues earlier toys in this line suffered from, unfortunately they are still difficult to pose due to the rubber band construction for the torso and hips. A child, however, would not be concerned by this- they would more likely be playing with the toy. I love the bright happy colors and smile on Flash's face- this is a FUN toy!

Like Two-Face, Captain Cold is a standout in this line of toys due to his excellently styled outfit- a triumph, I say! The blue fabric even feels retro! Like the Flash, Captain Cold has his own, individually-styled boots, his with icicle pattern around the tops.

A lot of these Mattel dollies come with no accessories, but Captain Cold comes with his trademark freeze gun, which neatly holsters into the substantial belt they gave him. He doesn't grip it very well, but I appreciate that it's molded in magenta plastic, adding to they playful look of this retro toy.

I've really enjoyed this line of toys, and  eagerly await the release of the Sinestro Corps Sinestro and Jon Stewart Green Lantern (which has an afro!) coming out in the next couple months. Unfortunately, these, along with a Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner Green Lanterns will be sold only at Matty Collector's website, and on seperate occasions so I can be fleeced for shipping twice. The price of these seem a little high at twenty buck a pop, though my friends overseas probably (laughs) don't want to hear about that! Why Batman came without a grapple hook and batarangs is beyond my understanding. And couldn't they have fiven Two-Face a couple .45 Magnums? But does it matter really matter to Mattel when people like myself will buy them? And while Mattel got a few things wrong with these, they did a lot right as well, including keeping the spirit of those old Megos intact with styling and packaging- and that's what I came for, Kids  :)

Hey Mr. Postman!

Well. I guess I don't have to tell you what toys my PostMa'am has been bringing me this week... yeah, that's right: more Brave and The Bold! Hooray!!

*Arrow Blast Green Arrow! I love this guy- Green Arrow has become a real favorite for me lately, reading all the JLA stuff  :)

*Kanjar-Ro! EVIL!!

*Sea Spear Aquaman! There is another deluxe Aquaman w/vehicle, but I wanted the original...

*Battle Axe Batman! I know I have several Batman variations from this line, but this one is the original blue and gray... and he has a battle axe. C'mon!!

*Proto Bat-Bot! Towering over the 4 3/4" action figures of this line, this serious chunk of toy is nearly 12" tall and 8" wide. And he lights up and talks, and shoots projectiles- I am entertained! Officially my first real action figure "vehicle" purchased in my adulthood... BITCHIN'!!
