MOTU Masterverse Revelation Scare Glow

On a whim, I decided to pull out this Masterverse Scare Glow I've had on ice for a second Halloween post tonight! As I said in my last post, I've been quietly collecting Masterverse figures in spite of my initial resolve only to collect Origins line for my MOTU fix. My eBay purchase had a rough box, but I don't care about that for the discounted price & free shipping.

Scareglow's head and hands are the only parts with any translucence, unlike his usual appearance in toy form, but I do like this updated aesthetic overall. I'd love the 2021 SDCC Exclusive with additional neon green, glow-in-the-dark deco if the secondary market price was more reasonable, but this standard issue has a glow-in-the-dark head and is plenty of fun for me. I like that the capes in the Masterverse line are soft goods, and they have all the updated articulation modern action figures enjoy.

Above, Masterverse Revelation Scare Glow with Revelation Skeletor from
my last post, and my 5.5" Origins Scare Glow - one of my favorites!

While the original Scare Glow was released just a little past my childhood interest in 1987, he's a favorite MOTU character of mine in adulthood. This redesign for the Revelation Series is a little different, it captures the essence of the character- he's a glowing skeleton villain, and not the only one either- what more do you really need? Visit the Battle Ram Blog to read all about the original Masters of the Universe line from 1982 - '88!

Happy Halloween!

MOTU Masterverse Skeletor: Revelation, New Eternia, & Horde

I've been secretly amassing a stash of MOTU Masterverse figures, recently purchasing the New Eternia an "Horde" Skeletors just in time for Halloween! When Mattel solicited the 5.5" Origins and 7" Masterverse lines a few years ago, I decided to only collect Origins, but the Masterverse line was ultimately too cool to pass on completely. You will be seeing more in future posts here!

 Masterverse Revelation Skeletor
This first Skeletor released in the Masterverse collection drew a lot of criticism from fans,
but he's a great figure that hits all the right notes for the character, in my opinion.

Masterverse New Eternia Skeletor
The New Eternia Skeletor can pose in his "barbarian", caped mode, or made a more
traditional Skeletor by pulling the top armor/cape off and changing the head...

Masterverse Revelation Skeletor (Horde)
This fantastic red and black Skeletor also has caped/uncaped modes that reveal his
unique armor and give the figure a more traditional look for the Lord of Destruction!

Below, my Masterverse Skeletors with my Origins Rise of Evil and Screeech 2-pk Skeletors, and my Super 7 Filmation Skeletor... probably only about half my Skeletor figures!

All three of these are fantastic Skeletor figures with modern articulation. I never had the 6" Masters of the Universe Classics figures, but this is kind of like having their spiritual successor in ways. As I said, there will be more Masterverse I will be showing here and there are still Masterverse New Eternia figures scheduled for release soon!

Happy Halloween!

Outer Space Men 12" Colossus Rex

I came upon this 12" Colossus Rex at a deep internet discount on the Outer Space Men store this past July- a small production piece I purchased for its retro-appeal and deluxe shelf presence and bright colors. Check out the video:

This 12" vinyl figure is based on the Colossus Rex designs by Mel Birnkrant, who spearheaded the Outer Space Men toys of the '60s. I have several of the 4-5" glyos figures that Four Horsemen reissued awhile back, but this big boy was produced by Clutter Studios. He's a basic 5 points of articulation, which is fine by me as he will probably hand in the background of my MOTU display or something like that. While cumbersome in size, the box is collector friendly- there were no ties nor tape anywhere on the box. I with the leg joints were a bit tighter, but he stands fine.

MOTU Origins Snake Armor He-Man & King Hiss

I had preordered King Hiss some time ago from Entertainment Earth, who pulled the rug from under me at the last minute, leaving me to seek the figure out on the secondary market- expensive! Snake Armor He-Man was priced slightly more modestly, but I wanted these to go with my new Snake Mountain playset, so I'm happy   :)

King His can now rule over my other MOTU Snake Men in my new Snake Mountain playset ...! Below, clockwise from top-left: Masters of the WWE Jake the Snake, King Hiss, Snake Teela, Tung Lashor, and Rattlor.

There's a variant of this Snake Armor He-Man sold with the Diabolical Snake Invasion set, but I've yet to pull the trigger on that- I prefer the gold trim on this figure over the lime green on the variant, but I'd love to have them both- this is a fantastic He-Man!

Below, Snake Armor He-Man with some other MOTU Origins He-Man figures in my collection: Prince Adam, the first standard issue Origins He-Man, Battle Armor He-Man, and my Battlefield Warriors Battle Armor He-Man in vac-metal finish!

Snake Armor He-Man & King Hiss really complete my Snake Mountain ...!

NECA Ultimate Creature from the Black Lagoon

I've been waiting for this one to come in stock forever and bumped into this NECA Ultimate Creature from the Black Lagoon on an endcap at a local Target recently.  The box art is fantastic and collector-friendly so I'll probably hang onto it for storage of the figure. I should probably think hard about picking up a few more of these Universal Monsters NECA figures while I can- the details are top notch.

This Ultimate Gill Man includes four pairs of hands and three heads- one with a partially open mouth, one closed, and a third with an articulated jaw. Trick! Honestly, NECA should have given us a different accessory, maybe a net, since the articulated jaw renders the two static portraits moot. The colors on this figure are relatively saturated, the highlights a metallic gold- the original film was black and white, but the deco on this Ultimate version is obviously informed by the movie posters. A fantastic figure- recommended!

And finally, for size comparison if not mutual aquatic theme, NECA Gill Man with McFarlane DC Multiverse Justice League Aquaman and comic book Aquaman and Ocean Master...
